Course Description

This course is designed to give the knowledge and understanding to those working in or wanting to work in the childcare sector.

This course is in two parts, the core which is theory-based and the practical side. It is possible to complete the core element if an individual is not in a childcare environment.

Entry Criteria

Potential learners must have an interview and be volunteering or in employment in childcare setting (for level 2).

For level 3 - need to be in a supervisory position in a childcare environment.

Learners must be ICT literate and with a good level of written communication skills.

High E3 on Communication on WEST results.

Delivery

Theory (CORE element) involves some online learning.

Assessment

The core contains 4 exams and a detailed portfolio of work including reflections.

Practice - a minimum of 6 observations are needed which will involve planning, being observed and reflecting on practice.

Those undertaking the level 3 need to observe children.

Progression

From a level 2 course, it’s possible to complete the level 3 (providing in a supervisory role).

Possible for individuals to progress to the theory level 4 leadership and management qualification in childcare and even the level 5.
