Course Description
Are you looking for an advanced hairdressing career? Would you like to work in a top salon, on a cruise liner, or as a demonstrator or manager?
The UK hairdressing industry is actively looking for qualified specialists, and this programme allows you to meet that criteria. It is also one of the only acceptable qualifications for work abroad, giving you even more options for success.
The programme is suitable for students progressing from a relevant Level 2 qualification, or from previous experience of salon work. As well as boosting your career options, it allows you to proceed into Higher Education and take your studies even further.
Entry Criteria
In order to qualify for this course, you will need at least one of the following:
- A relevant Level 2 qualification at Pass
- Relevant industry experience
You will also require an attendance level of 86% in your current year of study.
As part of the application process, you will be asked to attend an interview to give you the opportunity to discuss the course.

- Realistic Work Environment
- Assessment and exams
You will also undertake work experience as part of the programme.
Your programme will include a combination of:
- Essential Skills qualifications and/or
- GCSE resits and/or
- The Welsh Baccalaureate
Welsh Baccalaureate
Welsh Baccalaureate is a valuable qualification which is often studied alongside your Level 3 full-time course.
The qualification is graded A*-E, carrying the equivalent UCAS points at Level 3, and equips you with transferable personal and business skills. It is highly regarded by universities and employers alike.
As part of the qualification, you will learn about Global Citizenship, Enterprise and Employability and take part in community engagement and work experience.
Essential Skills
This may include a combination of Application of Number, Communication, Digital Literacy and Essential Employability Skills
GCSE resits
This may include GCSE Numeracy/Maths and/or Welsh/English Language.
Maths & Welsh/English
If you don't achieve a C or above in Maths and/ or English/Welsh, we will support you to retake these subjects as part of your study programme.
Assessment
The programme is assessed through a blend of the following:
- Observation
- Online assessments
- Exams
Progression
The programme gives you a qualification and a valuable set of skills, helping you to progress into employment and higher education.
You could proceed onto a degree-level programme at Grŵp Llandrillo Menai, such as the Foundation Degree (FdA) Management and Business, or a specialised degree programme at another institution.
Alternatively, you could enter employment within a hotel, spa or salon environment.
Or an apprenticeship:
- Apprenticeship Level 3 in Barbering
- Apprenticeship Level 3 in Hairdressing
