Work experience

Why should I take on a work experience student?

Apart from making a real difference to a young person’s working life, offering work experience is beneficial to employers for a number of reasons:

  • Recruitment opportunities - finding the right staff for your future workforce, for entry level jobs and above.
  • Raise your profile in the local community - being known as a business that offers work experience opportunities will raise the profile and appeal of your business.
  • Grow your own talent - get access to the up and coming talent of the future.
  • Get additional help at no cost - as an employer, you do not have to pay students on work experience.
  • Achieve new perspectives and ideas - young people often bring fresh ideas and approaches which may open up new and emerging markets for the business.
  • Support a young person in achieving academic success - at the same time it will help increase your understanding of modern learning processes and current educational qualifications.

What is needed to allow a student to undertake work experience in your organisation:

  • Undergo a Health and Safety Appraisal carried out by College staff
  • Provide evidence of having Employer Liability Insurance
  • Have a member of staff to ensure that the students Safety and Welfare is maintained
