    Course Description

    The NEBOSH Environmental Certificate is designed to give learners the knowledge and understanding to help organisations manage their environmental issues.

    The course is suitable for those who already have responsibility for managing environmental issues and anyone who wishes to start a career in environmental management.

    It is aimed at managers, supervisors and employees.

    Undertaking the environmental certificate will help learners to:

    • Justify environmental management in the workplace.
    • Recognise which workplace activities may be subject to environmental legislation or enforcement.
    • Assess environmental aspects and impacts and evaluate existing controls.
    • Support environmental emergency planning.
    • Understand the importance of reducing environmental harm.
    • Outline the issues associated with waste and its management.
    • Explain the pros and cons of various energy sources and how to use them more efficiently.

    On completion of the environmental certificate, learners will be able to:

    • Understand a range of environmental issues so that you can improve environmental performance and reduce harm.
    • Work within an environmental management system and contribute to continual improvement.
    • Recognise environmental aspects and associated impacts and evaluate the effectiveness of existing controls.
    • Support decision making with ethical, legal and financial arguments.
    • Understand the links between your organisation’s activities and wider environmental issues.

    Entry Criteria

    There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, however this NEBOSH certificate is a Level 3 qualification equivalent to an A Level or equivalent UK college qualification. This means that the qualification is a demanding qualification to study and learners must be prepared and willing to study at this level.

    Learners must have a suitable standard of English language to understand and articulate the concepts contained in the syllabus.

    Delivery

    Remote learning.

    This course will be remotely delivered by a tutor in a virtual classroom and delegates must have access to a suitable PC, laptop or tablet with a camera, speakers and a robust internet connection sufficient to cope with online delivery.

    This course is delivered by taught sessions and group work.

    This qualification has a two-step assessment process which consists of:

    The NEBOSH Environmental Certificate covers two units: EMC1 and EMC2 and the qualification has a two-step assessment process which consists of:

    Unit EMC1 – Environmental management

    An open book examination: which is a digital assessment that you will be able to complete at home or in another safe and suitable location where you can concentrate. You will be presented with a scenario that describes a real life scenario. You will then be required to answer theoretical and practical questions on environmental management based on the scenario.

    You will have 24 hours to complete and submit your paper, though you should be able to complete it in 4-5 hours.

    Unit EMC2 – Assessing environmental aspects and associated impacts

    • A practical assessment where learners will be required to assess environmental aspects and impacts in their chosen workplace.
