Course Description

Police training is changing across England and Wales as a result of a comprehensive workforce transformation programme set out by the College of Policing. This transformation is achieved in part through the introduction of the Policing Education Qualifications Framework, which equips new police recruits with the right skills to adapt to the professional complexity of modern day policing including the changing nature of crime and demands on police services.

Bangor University in partnership with Grŵp Llandrillo Menai is offering an undergraduate degree in Professional Policing, licensed by the College of Policing. This will introduce students to the skills required to work as a police officer.

Please note: Completion of this degree does not guarantee the opportunity for recruitment into the police service. Those planning a career in the police are advised to check eligibility criteria as set out by individual police services.

Entry Criteria

For 2025 entry:

Maths and English/Welsh GCSE at Grade C/4 or equivalent required.

Typical offer is based on a minimum 96 tariff points from a Level 3 qualification* e.g.

A Levels
BTEC National/Extended Diploma and Cambridge Technical Extended Diploma:
City and Guilds Advanced Technical / Extended Diploma: Merit
International Baccalaureate Diploma:
Access: Pass
NCFE CACHE Level 3 Extended Diploma: Grade C
Welsh Baccalaureate is accepted.

Delivery

This course will be taught through a combination of lectures, tutorials and workshops and seeks to provide students with a thorough grounding in a range of key issues and themes required to work as a police officer.

Feedback

Where relevant, assessments will be marked and returned to students with constructive and developmental feedback. Effective feedback combines information which enables students to understand the strengths and limitations of their past performance, and information which enables them to recognise how future performance can be improved. Students will be provided with feedback in a timely manner and this feedback will justify how the grade has been awarded. Students will have the opportunity to reflect on the feedback given and identify their strengths, things they found challenging and areas for development that they will feed forward to their next assessment. Feedback will include linking evidence to assessment criteria to demonstrate how the student will have met the learning outcomes.

Progression

The BSc in Professional Policing is a professional academic knowledge-based degree based on the national curriculum for the police constable role. It is of interest to those planning a career in policing (police constable or other police functions), and those with an interest in law enforcement as well as wider criminal justice.

The BSc in Professional Policing has a currency of 5 years following graduation, for recruitment into policing.
