Do I have to do Level 2?
You can choose to start with the FSc in Counselling but if you opt to study via the Agored or CPCAB route we ask everyone to complete L2 as it forms the base learning and a route for progression. The only exception would be if you have at least 30 hours of counselling experience which can be evidenced.
What is the difference between the CPCAB Level 2 and Agored Level 2?
The CPCAB model captures further theory around counselling, offers a perspective on diversity and a greater understanding of self. This qualification is designed to give learners the underpinning knowledge, skills and competencies to use counselling skills ethically and safely in a variety of contexts and roles. This qualification is for:
- Those starting the first level of training as a professional counsellor
- Those who want to learn counselling skills in other professional or helping roles
- Those who want to improve their professional and personal relationships as part of personal development.
This qualification could lead to employment or increase employability for those whose role is to support others in e.g. health and social care work, teaching and learning, advocacy and mediation, support and project work, and other helping roles.
The CPCAB qualification also has an external exam. The CPCAB courses are online and the Agored courses are in person. The Agored course covers some aspects of theoretical knowledge but it is very much centered around practical communication skills. The course also looks at ethical approaches and how feedback is given.
Can I do CPCAB Level 3 if I do Agored Level 2?
Not usually, although it may be possible based on prior training and experience. CPCAB requires 75 hours of counselling training in order to start at Level 3 or 30 hours of counselling experience which can be evidenced.
I am 18 but will be 19 halfway through the course.
You need to be 19 when the course begins for the on-site Agored classes. You can start the CPCAB Level 2 online course at 18.
I am interested in attending the course with my friend/partner/relative/spouse, can we both attend?
Some of the content can be somewhat personal. Therefore, we would recommend that you select a different course session in order to attend separately, as you may get more from the course by attending different sessions.
For the Level 2 Agored course, how much work will I need to do outside of the course?
Learners are expected to keep a reflective journal weekly and to complete a workbook. This is approximately 2-3 hours of self-directed study per week.
