Please note: We recommend that you have access to a laptop or Chromebook to enable coursework to be completed digitally at home. There is a dedicated IT Digital Inclusion fund to support those learners who do not have a digital device and are unable to purchase one.
Course Description
This course develops the skills and knowledge at a ratio of roughly 80/20 practical to theory, to prepare you for work in a variety of engineering roles in both the technical support and manufacturing industries.
The course is a mix of hands-on tasks in industry standard workshops and classroom activities to build understanding of engineering principles and practice.
The qualification is valued by local and international employers and will prepare you for both work-related roles, Apprenticeships and/or further educational progress to level 3 craft.
Entry Criteria
- 4 GCSEs A*- D or 3 A*-D plus 1 GCSE at grade E, (can only be English or Welsh 1st Language or Maths or Numeracy - you will resit during the year)
- OR, successful completion of Engineering Craft Level 1 with satisfactory attendance record and performance record

- Classroom activities

If you don't achieve a C or above in Maths and/ or English/Welsh, we will support you to retake these subjects as part of your study programme.
Assessment
The programme will be assessed through a blend of the following:
- Practical assessment
- Online assessment
- Oral questioning
- Written questions
- Short learner task sheets for you to complete independently
Progression
Successful completion of this course will give you the opportunity to progress to Engineering Craft Level 3 or Apprenticeship Level 3 in Engineering.
Alternatively, you could apply for an apprenticeship with a local company and attend further training on a day release basis.
