Course Description
Environmental conservation covers a wide range of opportunities including the conservation of landscapes, habitats and species alongside the management of public access and countryside recreation, as well as interpretation to promote awareness, understanding and enjoyment of the countryside. It is also suitable for local community projects such as recycling, food banks etc.
The sector includes rural and urban areas, rivers, coasts and waterways throughout Wales, many of which are designated areas requiring special protection.
This apprenticeship framework is suitable for a wide variety of roles including:
- Estate Workers
- Gardeners
- Boundary Installers
- Countryside Wardens
- Recycling Officers
- Foresters
- Community Projects
- Gamekeeping etc
Entry Criteria
- A minimum of three GCSE passes.
- Alternative qualifications may be accepted if they are demonstrably equivalent.
- Apprentices must have an employer who can cover the NVQ criteria
All places are subject to satisfactory interview.
Delivery
Technical training is provided in the college 1 day per week, including time in practical workshops.
Assessment
- Completion of a portfolio of evidence
- Work-based observations
- Theory-based tasks and tests
