Course Description
Would you like to enhance your knowledge and technical skills?
This practical programme builds on your existing understanding and teaches you how to become a stylist. You will study all parts of hairstyling, including cutting, perming, colouring, blow-drying and setting hair of various types and lengths.
You will also develop skills in client consultation, reception work, hair/scalp treatments and health and safety. The programme is suitable for students progressing from a Level 1 Hairdressing programme, and will continue to prepare you for a career in the hair and beauty sector.
Entry Criteria
In order to qualify for this course, you will need at least one of the following:
- A relevant Level 1 qualification at Pass, and a Grade D/E in English or Welsh 1st Language and Maths, or Entry 3 / Level 1 ESQ in Numeracy and Communication
- Relevant industry experience
You will also require an attendance level of 86% in your previous year of study.
As part of the application process, you will be asked to attend an interview to give you the opportunity to discuss the course.
Delivery
The programme will be delivered through a blend of the following:

- Workshops
- Commercial Salon Training
- Realistic Work Environment
You will also undertake work experience as part of the programme.
You will study a variety of subject-specific modules, in addition to Literacy and Numeracy skills.
You will also study additional relevant qualifications, which may include the Welsh Baccalaureate.
Your programme will include a combination of:
- Essential Skills qualifications and/or
- GCSE resits
Essential Skills
This may include a combination of Application of Number, Communication, Digital Literacy and Essential Employability Skills
GCSE resits
This may include GCSE Numeracy/Maths and/or Welsh/English Language.
Maths & Welsh/English
If you don't achieve a C or above in Maths and/ or English/Welsh, we will support you to retake these subjects as part of your study programme.

The programme is assessed through a blend of the following:
- Observation and exams
- Online assessments
