Course Description
This course aims to provide the knowledge and skills require to operate a Forward Tipping Dumper. It is suitable for operators of all abilities and those who have received no previous formal training or instruction.
At the end of the course all learners should be able to:
- Carry out pre start and running checks
- Set the dumper for site and road travel
- Travel over differing types of terrain including rough and undulating ground, both laden and unladen.
- Travel up and down substantial inclines, both loaded and unloaded.
- Position the dumper to receive loads.
- Comply with loading procedures
- Discharge load into trenches and over edges.
- Place the machine in and out of service condition.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of loading and unloading procedures for safe machine transportation.
Entry Criteria
All learners
- An in date CITB Health, Safety and Environment touchscreen test.
- A good understanding of Welsh and/or English is required.
Novice Learners
- No experience required
Experienced/ Refresher
- Either 18 months provable work experience and/ or 6 months consistent daily experience in this category
Delivery
Learning through a mix of classroom-based teaching and practical exercises
Assessment
2 days learning through a mix of classroom-based teaching and practical exercises
1 day assessment – NPORS technical tests
Progression
After completing this course, the learner will be awarded a NPORS/ CSCS Card Red Trained Operatives card. This is valid for 2 years and learners will be required to register for a relevant NVQ.
Upon the successful completion of the NVQ, learners will be awarded a Blue Competent Operators card. This is valid for 5 years. An operator logbook/ CPD record is also issued which will can be used to support refresher and experienced training.
Refresher training is advised every 3 years.
