Course Description
This course aims to provide the knowledge and skills require to operate a Ride on Roller. It is suitable for operators of all abilities and those who have received no previous formal training or instruction.
At the end of the course all learners should be able to:
- Have an understanding of the industry, the dangers within the industry and their responsibilities as a plant operator.
- Have an understanding of the manufacturing handbook for the plant used.
- Locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions.
- Locate and identify key controls and explain their functions.
- Conduct all pre- operational checks, in accordance with manufacturing and also legislative requirements.
- Identify and maintain all appropriate PPE
- Prepare and operate the roller safely and efficiently
- Conduct safety checks at the work area.
- Knowledgeable about environmental considerations.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of loading and unloading procedures for safe machine transportation.
- Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures.
Entry Criteria
All learners
- An in date CITB Health, Safety and Environment touchscreen test.
- A good understanding of Welsh and/or English is required.
Novice Learners
- No experience required
Experienced/ Refresher
- Either 18 months provable work experience and/ or 6 months consistent daily experience in this category
Delivery
Learning through a mix of classroom-based teaching and practical exercises
Assessment
2 days learning through a mix of classroom-based teaching and practical exercises
1 day assessment – NPORS technical tests
Progression
After completing this course, the learner will be awarded a NPORS/ CSCS Card Red Trained Operatives card. This is valid for 2 years and learners will be required to register for a relevant NVQ.
Upon the successful completion of the NVQ, learners will be awarded a Blue Competent Operators card. This is valid for 5 years. An operator logbook/ CPD record is also issued which will can be used to support refresher and experienced training.
Refresher training is advised every 3 years.
