Course Description
This is a one-year internship programme supporting young people with a learning disability and/or autism to gain the skills/ experience and qualifications to move into paid employment.
The aim of supported internships is to prepare learners for paid employment by:
- Supporting them to develop skills valued by employers.
- Enabling them to demonstrate their value in the workplace
- Developing confidence in their own abilities to perform successfully at work.
Entry Criteria
Delivery
The programme is delivered within the host business. The interns will receive formal teaching at the beginning and end of every day.
Assessment
After setting and agreeing individual targets, learners will be assessed within their internships. Learners may complete a formal qualification if appropriate to their employment outcomes.

Skills for Work
In partnership with Agoriad Cyf and Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. Based on the ‘Engage to Change’ - Agoriad Cyf Internship model. The training incorporates the core skills, Employability (mainly), Health and Wellbeing, Independent Living Skills, The Community, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Literacy. Interns have internships with local employers.
As part of the schedule, all interns will take part in a ‘Community Participation’ exercise half way through the programme where they will actively take part in a volunteering role in the local area.
Campus Information Ysbyty Glan Clwyd
Working in partnership the aim of the programme is to prepare interns for the World of Work. Learners work within the hospital as interns and experience up to three rotations within different departments. The success of the programme over the last 3 years has resulted in a high percentage of the learners gaining work with paid employment.
