Course Description
Would you like a career in the uniformed protective/public services?
Your full programme of study will include the Uniformed Protective Services qualification, alongside additional qualifications which will support your wider skills development and support you to progress. Your personalised programme (grade profile development) will include a combination from the Welsh Baccalaureate (which allows you to gain additional UCAS points), Literacy, Numeracy, Employability and Digital skills.
The course is designed to prepare you for employment in the Armed Forces, Police, Fire Service, Prison Service and other Community and Emergency Service-related organisations. Progression from level 3 could also include options in Higher Education, including routes in Public Services, Policing, Law, Social Work, Psychology and Criminology.

Entry Criteria
5 GCSEs at grade A* - C, including English or Welsh 1st Language and GCSE Mathematics or Numeracy at grade D or above. Equivalent qualifications are accepted, including a Merit at Level 2 and GCSE English or Comms and GCSE Maths or Numeracy (or equivalent) at Level 2- e.g. ESW level 2 AoN).

An essential part of your studies will be to improve your numeracy, literacy and digital literacy and employment skills.
You will be given tuition that is appropriate to your current stage of development to help you improve and develop these vital skills
You will be given the opportunity to improve your D grade in GCSE English, Welsh (1st language) or Numeracy to C or above. If your GCSE grades are already above C then you will be able to take the Welsh Baccalaureate Qualification which attracts UCAS points.

Welsh Baccalaureate
Welsh Baccalaureate is a valuable qualification which is often studied alongside your Level 3 full-time course.
The qualification is graded A*-E, carrying the equivalent UCAS points at Level 3, and equips you with transferable personal and business skills. It is highly regarded by universities and employers alike.
As part of the qualification, you will learn about Global Citizenship, Enterprise and Employability and take part in community engagement and work experience.
Essential Skills
This may include a combination of Application of Number, Communication, Digital Literacy and Essential Employability Skills
GCSE resits
This may include GCSE Numeracy/Maths and/or Welsh/English Language.
Maths & Welsh/English
If you don't achieve a C or above in Maths and/ or English/Welsh, we will support you to retake these subjects as part of your study programme.
Assessment
Assessment is through a variety of methods, including written assignments, presentations, personal projects and demonstrations of practical skills. There may also be external tests.
You will also be expected to demonstrate personal discipline, attendance and good time keeping.
Assignments will assess your knowledge, but also to equip you with career skills
The qualification is graded at Pass, Merit and Distinction levels
The Advanced Welsh Baccalaureate will be an integral part of the course over the two years and is externally assessed
Progression
Completion of this course gives you a range of options in education and employment. The programme is equivalent to 3 A Levels if studied over 2 years, helping you to apply for a range of Higher Education courses at many institutions, such as Public Services, Policing, Paramedicine, Law, Social Work, Psychology and Criminology.
You could proceed onto a number of programmes at Grŵp Llandrillo Menai, including:
BSc(hons) Professional Policing run in conjunction with Bangor University
You will also have gained a valuable insight into the uniformed protective services, along with the advanced training and qualification to help you succeed. You could progress into the public service of your choice, or you could go into other professions such as local authority employment or security work.
