Course Description

Are you looking for a career in the motor vehicle and transport industries?

This course provides you with a technical and academic background in vehicle technology. It gives the skills you need to work in the industry and progress onto further study.

The course is suitable for anyone who wants to enter the vehicle industry. It focuses on practical, hands-on learning, delivered in realistic workshops and with an industry work placement.

The course is approved by the Sector Skills Council (SSC), ensuring that it meets the quality requirements of the industry.

Entry Criteria

In order to qualify for this course, you will need at least one of the following:

You will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to study by achieving your GCSE target grades and completing year 11 with good attendance.
Successful completion of a Traineeship, Pre-vocational, Pathways or School Link Programme
Relevant industry experience

As part of the application process, you will be asked to attend an interview to give you the opportunity to discuss the course.

Visits to Industry and Trade Shows

The Centre for Automotive Technology at the Rhyl Campus is equipped to the latest industry standards, including Heavy Goods Vehicle Brake Tester, 4 Wheel Drive Rolling Road Dynamometer, 4-Wheel Alignment, a superb Auto-Electronics Diagnostic Room, USI Spray Booths, Lechler Mixing Scheme, Car-OLiner Body Jig and Alignment System, Welding Bays, Valeting Bay, plus Hybrid Technology and Vehicle Climate Control Systems.

If you don't achieve a C or above in Maths and/ or English/Welsh, we will support you to retake these subjects as part of your study programme.

Assessment

The programme will be assessed through a blend of the following:

Internal practical assessment
Online assessment
Oral questioning
Written questions
Short learner task sheets for you to complete independently

Progression

Completion of this course will give you the fundamental skills and knowledge to work in the vehicle industry.

Due to technological advancements, companies in manufacture, retail, distribution, servicing and accident repair are constantly seeking to bring young people into this fast changing industry. You will have skills in a number of areas, which will suit any role where an eye to detail is essential.

The course will also prepare you for studying at a more advanced level.
