Coleg Menai Student Crowned Under 20 Javelin Welsh Female Champion

Abbi Parkinson, who studies Sport Outdoor Education at Coleg Menai recently came 1st place in the Under 20 Javelin throwing competition.

The Welsh Championships were held at the end of July in Newport, where at just 17 years old, Abbi became Welsh Female Champion as well as achieving her personal best record.

Abbi has been training in athletics since she was nine years old, however, she only began fully training in javelin last year. She trains at the Bangor University owned Treborth Track around three times a week.

Last week, Abbi also represented Wales for the first time in a British competition held at Moulton College, Northampton, and came an impressive 4th place.

Abbi explained, “It was an amazing moment when I realised I had become the Welsh Champion! I’ve been training quite a lot recently, so it was fantastic seeing that hard work pay off”.
