First cohort complete college’s new Health and Social Care degree
Students are celebrating after becoming the first cohort to complete Coleg Menai’s Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care.
The Fda Health and Social Care is aimed at people looking for employment or promotion within the healthcare, social care, childcare or public and social policy sectors.
It can lead to employment working for national and local government, health and social care providers and organisations such as the Prison Service and Shelter Cymru.
The course also provides a basis for progression onto BA (Hons) Degrees, including the BA (Hons) Health and Social Care at Grŵp Llandrillo Menai.
This year’s cohort included Katrin Spens, Cerys Sloan, Amelia Buchanan and George Russell (pictured left to right).
All four stayed to study Foundation Degrees after completing Level 3 Health & Social Care at college.
The students said: “We would definitely recommend doing a degree in college because it’s close to home and you can almost carry on with your life while gaining a degree.
“We weren’t sure what to do after our Level 3. We wanted to progress onto a degree level but without committing to university life.
“This has allowed us to work and support ourselves financially around progressing. The course has completely worked around us and our lifestyles. We’ve been able to gain our
Level 4 and 5 in two years, which has allowed us to progress onto our Level 6, which we will be starting in September."
The Fda Health and Social Care offers an in-depth knowledge of current health, social, childcare, public or social policy. The course is flexible around other commitments students may have, as it is delivered one day per week for part-time students and two days per week for full-time learners.
