Grŵp Llandrillo Menai signs up to the Dying to Work charter
By signing the charter, the Grŵp has pledged to support employees diagnosed with a terminal illness
Grŵp Llandrillo Menai has signed up to the TUC’s Dying to Work charter.
Chief Executive Officer Dafydd Evans - in partnership with its recognised Trade Unions - signed up to the charter at a ceremony facilitated by the Trades Union Congress (TUC) at Coleg Llandrillo’s Rhos-on-Sea campus.
Also signing the charter in the Rhos ceremony was Kevin Williams, organising development officer for the TUC, as well as representatives from the UCAC, Unison, UCU and NEU unions.
By signing up to the charter, the Grŵp has pledged to support any of its employees who receive a terminal diagnosis.
Dafydd Evans said: “Over the years, we hope that our staff have always felt well-supported whilst dealing with serious illness diagnosis. Therefore, signing up to the Dying to Work charter appeared an obvious next step for us as an employer.
“It has been a pleasure working on this with our local unions under our Local Social Partnership initiative.
“No-one facing a terminal illness diagnosis should have to also endure the stress of worrying about their employment rights.”
The TUC is campaigning for employers across the UK to sign up to the charter to protect the rights of employees who have been diagnosed with a terminal illness.
Kevin Williams, organising development officer for the TUC, said: “The Dying to Work charter is something which public-sector organisations in Wales are all signing up to in increasing numbers.
“It protects families and those left behind in case of a sudden diagnosis of a terminal illness and I think it’s something that everybody should subscribe to.”
By signing the charter, Grŵp Llandrillo Menai recognises that:
- ● Terminal illness requires support and understanding, and not additional and avoidable stress and worry.
- ● Terminally ill employees will be secure in the knowledge that they will be supported following their diagnosis, and that the Grŵp recognises that safe and reasonable work can help maintain dignity, offer a valuable distraction and can be therapeutic in itself.
- ● The Grŵp will provide employees with the security of work and the right to choose the best course of action for themselves and their families.
- ● Supporting the TUC’s Dying to Work charter will mean employees with a terminal illness will have adequate protection and have their death-in-service benefits protected for the loved ones they leave behind.
