Grŵp Llandrillo Menai Unveils New Leadership Team to Shape Future Success

Grŵp Llandrillo Menai, the organisation that encompasses Coleg Llandrillo, Coleg Menai, Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor, and Busnes@LlandrilloMenai, has recently unveiled a new leadership team to drive forward its vision and strengthen its commitment to educational excellence across the region.

Chief Executive Aled Jones-Griffith, who was appointed into the role over the summer, is joined in the senior management team by two new Principals; Dr Siôn Peters-Flynn, Principal of Coleg Menai and Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor, and Paul Flanagan, Principal of Coleg Llandrillo.

Before joining the college as Principal, Siôn had worked as an Inspector for Estyn since 2016. During his time with the inspectorate, Siôn had responsibility as one of the sector leads for post-16 education and training, he led Estyn’s thematic review of post-16 partnerships across Wales, and held various other lead roles including jointly leading Estyn’s annual report.

Paul Flanagan was previously Director of Higher Education at Grŵp Llandrillo Menai, where he was a driving force behind numerous strategic initiatives within the organisation, particularly in enhancing learner outcomes, promoting a culture of inclusivity, and fostering innovation across the college’s curriculum and services.

Gwenllian Roberts, the former Ofwat Director of Wales and previously Chief Regional Officer North Wales for the Welsh Government joined Busnes@LlandrilloMenai as Executive Director Commercial Development in January 2024.

James Nelson has held the position of Executive Director of Academic Services since 2017, and Sharon Bowker joined Grŵp Llandrillo Menai in 2022 as Executive Director for Corporate Services.

The new leadership team steps into their roles following extremely positive Estyn inspection reports in both Further Education and Adult Community Education, providing a solid basis to propel future opportunities and build on the high standard of education delivery.

Aled Jones-Griffith, Chief Executive, explained,

“As a team, we’re looking forward to leading the roll out of Grŵp Llandrillo Menai’s new values and behaviours, and pushing forward our vision of improving people’s futures.

I’m also eager to ensure that Grŵp Llandrillo Menai continues to be the key provider of education and training through the medium of Welsh and bilingually in Wales, while also evolving our offerings to meet the growing demand..”

He added, “Additionally, we’re proud to announce the completion of our new campus in Bangor, located on Parc Menai. Looking ahead, we are excited about our plans to develop the Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor campuses over the next 10 years, which will significantly enhance our educational offerings and better serve our local communities.”
