Dance lecturer Lucy giving back to Coleg Menai
Lucy Hawken studied Performing Arts and is now helping students make the right moves at the new Bangor campus
Dance lecturer Lucy Hawken is relishing the opportunity to give back to Coleg Menai by helping students “discover the best version of themselves”.
Lucy studied Level 3 Performing & Production Arts at the college between 2018 and 2020.
After graduating with a first-class Degree in Performing Arts from Shockout Arts in Manchester, she is now studying a PGCE and is employed as a lecturer at the new Bangor campus.
Teaching on the same course that she was following only a few years ago, Lucy believes she is well placed to help learners unlock their potential.
Asked what she gained from her time at college that helps her in her role, she said: “Knowing how to support the learners, but also being able to push them out of their comfort zones in order to develop within their practical sessions.
“I enjoy seeing the learners progress and develop individually, especially with their confidence, and allowing them to discover the best version of themselves.”
Lucy has fond memories of her time as a student, saying: “The course boosts your confidence and provides a safe space and a supportive environment to develop a range of skills in dance, singing and acting.
“One of my favourite memories was utilising these skills in the rehearsals and performances of the musical Chicago that we performed at the end of the year. This process gave us a glimpse into what working in the industry is really like.
“The course gives learners a range of different and diverse opportunities to perform on stage and to experience working within the industry. We also offer a Level 4 course as a foundation to develop skills further.”
