Students Become Alzheimer’s Society Volunteers!
Public Services and Sports students at Coleg Menai recently registered to become ‘Dementia Friends’.
Following an information session held by Clare Young, Dementia Friends Champion for the Alzheimer's Society and Coleg Menai lecturer, several students have signed up to volunteer as Dementia Friends for the Alzheimer's Society.
The information session included 5 key messages on dementia and the challenges it presents, and encouraged the students to consider how they may be able to take action to help those living with dementia.
‘Dementia Friends’ help people living with dementia by taking actions - both big and small.
Clare Young, said,
“This was a fantastic opportunity for the students to learn more about Alzheimer’s and to think about what they can do to help people in their local community”.
“Too many people affected by dementia feel that society fails to understand the condition they live with. Dementia Friends help by raising awareness and understanding, so that people living with dementia can continue to live in the way they want”.
