Team Loop Racing reach UK F1 in Schools final for second year running
The Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor engineering students have stepped up to the professional class for this year’s competition
Team Loop Racing are through to the F1 in Schools National Finals for the second year in a row.
The team, comprising Jack Thomas, Jac Fisher, Osian Evans, Gethin Williams and Jac Roberts, qualified after finishing as overall professional class winners in the North Wales final.
They are now looking for more sponsorship to take their car to the next level for the UK finals in Rotherham on March 26 and 27.

Jack, Jac F, Osian, Gethin and Jac R are all Level 3 Engineering students at Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor’s Pwllheli campus, and are developing their F1 race car as part of their final-year project.
They competed as Team Come and Go in the development class of the 2024 competition, designing the fastest car in the regional heats to qualify for the UK final.
After positive feedback from the judges in last year’s competition, they decided to step up a gear to enter the professional class in 2025.
This is a significant step up, and this was reflected in the North Wales regional competition this year. Team Loop Racing were the only team from the original three entries to design and develop their race car to the new 2025 technical regulations in time for the race event.
They designed their car at Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor’s Pwllheli Hafan campus using computer-aided design package Fusion 360, manufacturing it on a CNC Denford milling machine.
Scoring highly in five areas of the competition, Team Loop Racing won three major categories this year. As well as overall professional class winners, they also won fastest car and the best technical development scoring against the new regulations.
They will compete against the top young engineering talent from across the UK at the Magna Centre in Rotherham later this month, with professional class teams qualifying from the South Wales regional finals as well as from a series of regional events across England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
At the North Wales final, Team Loop Racing were judged not only on how fast their car raced, but also on a verbal presentation and their engineering and enterprise portfolios.
They had to secure sponsorship for their cars from local businesses, demonstrating their business and marketing acumen, and are now looking for further sponsorship.
Emlyn Evans, engineering lecturer at Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor, said: “The team would not be as successful without the support of their sponsors, which is a significant part of their marketing campaign and funding for the competition. This enabled the team to score highly in the sponsorship and marketing aspects of the competition.
“Team Loop Racing is looking further for sponsorship towards helping them to the next level. If you can help, the team would appreciate any donations via their GoFundMe page.”
