The Coleg Cymraeg appoints four Ambassadors at Grŵp Llandrillo Menai

Grŵp Llandrillo Menai has announced Lora Jên Pritchard as a National Further Education Ambassador, along with three new Further Education Ambassadors for the 2024-25 academic year

In collaboration with the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol the ambassadors will raise awareness amongst their fellow learners at the college and beyond of the benefits of bilingual education and training, and encourage them to continue to use their Welsh language skills in the workplace in the future.

In addition, the national ambassador will represent the voice of further education learners nationally.

Among the new crew at Grŵp Llandrillo Menai this year will be National Further Education Ambassador Lora Jên Pritchard, and Further Education Ambassadors Alaw Robyns, Cadi Edwards and Bethan James

Lora Jên said: “It's a privilege to be appointed as an Ambassador on behalf of Coleg Glynllifon. As Welsh is my first language, it is an honour to have the opportunity to promote the Welsh language, and to promote the importance of doing the course in Welsh as well as socialising in order to be able to walk into a job in the future with confidence to work in Welsh!

“I'm looking forward to organising and being part of events at the College and beyond in order to share my skills more widely, and give everyone at college a great experience all through the medium of Welsh!"

Cadi said: “Being chosen as an ambassador is a privilege and an honour. I'm looking forward to being a voice for young students. The best advice I can give to anyone is 'it's better to regret doing something than to regret not doing it'.”

Alaw said: “I'm proud to be an ambassador and am really looking forward to having the opportunity to develop and strengthen the Welsh language at the college and among the students.”

Bethan said: “I'm delighted to have been chosen as an Ambassador for the College. I feel incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to strengthen and develop the Welsh language for the benefit of the College students."

The ambassadors will begin their work this month, and will represent the Coleg Cymraeg and Grŵp Llandrillo Menai at a variety of events, create social media content, and offer ideas on how to promote the Welsh language within their college. In addition, the national ambassador will represent the voice of learners nationally and be invited to contribute views and ideas on the Coleg’s academic board meetings.

The scheme also offers the ambassadors many opportunities to build their confidence and skills, and to be part of their college's Welsh-speaking community.

This year, the Coleg Cymraeg have appointed a total of 40 ambassadors across 12 further education colleges, including 4 National Ambassadors. Elin Williams, the Coleg’s Marketing Manager, is pleased to see the scheme growing each year.

She said: "The further education ambassador scheme is going from strength to strength with a number of colleges and their learners very enthusiastic to be part of the scheme.

"We now collaborate with colleges from all over Wales, and it's great to see the relationship developing.

"We look forward to working with the new ambassadors at the college, including the National Ambassadors, and sincerely hope they will be able to inspire their peers to use and be proud of their bilingual skills."
