Coleg Llandrillo’s Football Academy team reach Welsh Cup final
Llandrillo will play Whitchurch for the trophy after beating Gower College 3-2 in their semi-final
Coleg Llandrillo’s Football Academy team have reached the final of the Welsh Colleges Cup after beating Gower College in their semi-final.
They will play Whitchurch in the final at The New Saints’ stadium in Oswestry on Sunday, May 11.
Llandrillo won 3-2 away to Gower in their last-four clash, with Hugh Holland scoring twice and Gruff Price also on target.
Head coach and sport lecturer Matthew Williams said: “The players deserve all the plaudits. They executed the tactical game plan superbly, and their attitude, commitment, and desire to win were commendable.
“We're all looking forward to facing Whitchurch in the Welsh Cup final at TNS FC on May 11th. Reaching the final is testament to all the hard work put in throughout the season.”
Coleg Llandrillo reached the semi-finals after beating the joint Coleg Menai / Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor team in the quarter-final.
Both teams play in the Category 1 English Colleges Football Association Men’s Premier League - the highest level of college football.
Llandrillo’s run to the cup final follows their success last year, when they were promoted after a dominant championship-winning campaign in the Category 2 ECFA North West Men’s Regional Football (South) division.
