Sports Facilities at Llangefni
The facility at our Llangefni campus is home to the latest cutting-edge technology and equipment for monitoring sporting performance and excellence, including wattbikes, Seca machines to provide medical grade full body composition analysis, and a specialist treadmill featuring a douglas bag gas analysis system to assess Vo2max.
Sports Hall
World-class facility that offers a range of sporting opportunities. Markings allow for badminton, basketball, netball, volleyball and futsal/handball. The sports hall also includes opportunities to participate in cricket using elite equipment.
Studio
The studio is the highest quality facility, which includes a sprung floor to allow for a variety of activities such as yoga, dance and high-intensity sessions. The studio will also cater for spin classes, which includes 18 spin bikes.
Gym
The performance gym includes state-of-the-art equipment including a range of cardiovascular apparatus such as ski ergs, rowers, air bikes, treadmills and Assault AirRunners. Additional equipment includes fixed and free weights, a sledge, power bags and kettlebells.
Specialist Staff
We are proud to have a wealth of qualified and experienced staff from the sport and public services sectors. These include ex-elite rugby and football players, ex-military, police and protective services personnel providing current first-hand insight for our learners.
Sports and Exercise lab
The exercise physiology laboratory provides an FE sector-leading facility to assess a wide range of health and fitness related components, with equipment including:
- h/p/cosmos quasar med treadmill with safety arch and douglas bag gas analysis system to assess V02 max.
- Monark cycle ergometers and Wattbike to perform a range of Aerobic/Anaerobic testing.
- Seca mBCA515 body composition analyser to provide medical-grade full-body composition analysis.
- Spiroscout computer-based spirometry system to assess lung function.
In addition to the above, the laboratory has a number of Harpenden skinfold callipers, Takei strength and power testing equipment, and blood pressure lactate measurement equipment to provide learners with a unique learning experience.
General public use
The facility is not open to the general public but we are able to offer the main sports hall for use by local organisations as follows:
- The facilities will be available for booking from 4:30pm to 8:00 pm Monday to Thursday for up to 8 hours per week
- Priority will be given to Grŵp Llandrillo Menai use
- In order for the highest number in the community to be able to benefit, priority will be given to those Clubs and Associations with the largest number of members
- Priority will be given to those Clubs and Societies that can use the resources during periods when the college is open
- Priority will be given to those Clubs and Societies that are local to Anglesey
- It will not be possible to allow individuals to make use of the resources
- Preference will be given to booking in excess of 8 weeks (regular identical weekly bookings)
- We will regularly review the terms of this commitment in discussion with the Isle of Anglesey County Council to ensure that it does not interfere or compete with the Plas Arthur Centre
FAQs
Are other times/days available?
As an academic facility priority has to be to our learners, however, weekend use or use during college holidays may be possible but may incur additional charges.
Can the sports hall be used for non sports events?
The hall has a specific floor finish suitable for sporting activities so can't be used for other types of events (for example parties, markets, shows).
Do we need to provide all equipment?
The expectation is that the organisers are self sufficient however we are happy to discuss specific requirements.
Do we need to provide supervision, coaching staff, first aid provision?
