Your Journey to College
Leaving school is an exciting time, but with so many study options and possible career paths to choose from it can be daunting too.
With so many study options and possible career paths to choose from, dedicating some time researching what is available to you is a good place to start.
Step 1: Options
It is important to start thinking about the next step soon:
- Attend open events.
- Speak to our friendly Learner Services team about your future options.
- Have a 1:1 with your school’s Careers Wales. Book an appointment to see your school-based Careers Wales Adviser.
- If the college is visiting your school to give a presentation, it is important to listen to see what options/courses are available at the college.

Step 2: Making an Application
If you know which full-time course you want to apply for, you can apply online directly from the course information page.
To apply, select your campus and then complete the registration process by following the on-screen instructions.
Once you have submitted your application, you may be able to book an interview. You will be given a list of available dates and times. Following this, you will receive a conditional offer from the college based on meeting the entry requirements and attending an interview, if an interview is necessary. It is important that you accept this conditional offer. once you know that it is the right choice for you.
It is important to ensure that your predicted grades meet the entry requirements for the course you are applying for.
You can apply for more than one course, but you can only accept a place on one course.

Step 3: Interview
The interview is an informal chat about the course.
The tutor will ask about any qualifications you have already gained, your predicted grades, and any other information that would be useful for the college to know.
This will also be an opportunity for you to ask any questions about the course.
The interview can be 1:1 or in a group, depending on the course.
If you are unable to attend an interview, you can change the date/time by emailing the college at admissions@gllm.ac.uk

Step 4: Welcome to College
Early in the summer those who have applied and received a conditional offer will be invited to the college for a day as part of their transition into college.
This day will be an opportunity to meet tutors and new classmates, explore and get to know the campus, and take part in some course-related activities.
It will also be an opportunity to ask questions about the course or college.

Step 5: Results
The college holds two ‘secure your place’ days in late August. following GCSE results.
Once you have received your GCSE results from school, come to the college anytime between 10am and 4pm on either day to secure your place on the course. For those who have already achieved their qualifications in previous years, please also attend the college.
If you haven't achieved the grades you need for your course and you need further support and information, don't worry. You can talk to a tutor or the Learner Services team to find out about the course that is right for you. Learner Services are available on all sites to help you plan your options and advise. We aim to ensure you are on the right course in September by reflecting on your results.
It is important to read and respond to emails we send you about your application.

Step 6: Induction
The college course induction takes place over two days:
- Everyone will meet their tutors and get an overview of the learning programme.
- Receive a timetable for the year.
Additional information will be shared about transport, welfare and financial support including the college Learner Support Funds, the Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) and the Welsh Government Further Education Learning Grant, where applicable.
During the familiarisation period, the tutor will take the class to the registration department to register everyone on the course. During this time, everyone will have their photo taken for a lanyard and will also need to pay a resource fee of £25 (can be paid by cash, cheque, or card).
