Course Description
If you are passionate about farming and want to work in agriculture, an apprenticeship is an ideal way to learn on the job whilst earning a wage and gaining nationally recognised qualifications.
Apprenticeships in agriculture involve working for an employer and gaining practical skills and knowledge whilst earning a wage and gaining a qualification. You can even complete the apprenticeship on the home farm.
They are delivered at Level 2 and level 3 and are based on the type of farm you work at:
- Beef farming
- Sheep farming
- Dairy Farming
The majority of training is provided in the workplace, however the college may require learners to attend college based sessions to complete theory tasks and tests.
The subjects you will cover depend on the type of work you do and can include:
- Monitor and maintain the welfare of animals
- Transport livestock
- Livestock feeding
- Care for animals during and after birth
- Manage grazing crops
- Deliver basic treatments to animals
- Milking
- Monitor and maintain livestock outdoors
Entry Criteria
- No formal qualifications are required, but experience in Agriculture is desirable.
- Apprentices must have an employer who can cover the NVQ criteria.
Delivery
- The majority of training is provided in the workplace
- Attendance of college-based sessions to complete theory tasks and tests required
Assessment
- Completion of a portfolio of evidence
- Work-based observations
- Theory-based tasks and tests
