Course Description

Are you passionate about art, design and media? Would you like to work and study in this field?

This programme provides you with the necessary expertise and skills to enter Higher Education. It also allows you to develop your own creativity, as well as preparing for a career in the creative industries. The programme is suitable if you are progressing from a relevant Level 2 course, or from suitable GCSEs.

Throughout the programme you will explore the techniques and materials of areas that you may not have studied before. Each student's creativity is nurtured and encouraged in a supportive environment, and you will be tutored by practising artists and designers. As you develop your portfolio of work, you will also will benefit from specialist facilities, in purpose built studios and workshops.

You will be invited for interview, where you will show your portfolio of work and discuss your interests and career aspirations

Entry Criteria

In order to qualify for this course, you will need at least one of the following:

  • 4 GCSEs at grade C or above, preferably to include English or Welsh 1st Language and Maths
  • A relevant Level 2 qualification at Pass
  • Relevant industry experience

You will also require an attendance level of 86% in your previous year of study.

As part of the application process, you will be asked to attend an interview to give you the opportunity to discuss the course.

Please bring a sample of your portfolio to the interview. Places on the programme are subject to interview and portfolio.

Welsh Baccalaureate

Welsh Baccalaureate is a valuable qualification which is often studied alongside your Level 3 full-time course.

The qualification is graded A*-E, carrying the equivalent UCAS points at Level 3, and equips you with transferable personal and business skills. It is highly regarded by universities and employers alike.

As part of the qualification, you will learn about Global Citizenship, Enterprise and Employability and take part in community engagement and work experience.

Essential Skills

This may include a combination of Application of Number, Communication, Digital Literacy and Essential Employability Skills

GCSE resits

This may include GCSE Numeracy/Maths and/or Welsh/English Language.

Maths & Welsh/English

If you don't achieve a C or above in Maths and/ or English/Welsh, we will support you to retake these subjects as part of your study programme.

Assessment

The programme is assessed through a blend of the following:

  • Practical and written assessments/assignments
  • Presentations and demonstrations
  • Portfolios of work
  • Performance and observation

Progression

Completion of this course will give you the knowledge, skills and qualification to progress into Higher Education or an Art Foundation course
