Course Description
The qualification enables you to develop and demonstrate knowledge, skills and understanding within the context of health and social care, and childcare by:
- promoting health and well-being
- supporting health, well-being and resilience in Wales
- providing theoretical perspectives of children and young people’s development
- providing theoretical perspective of adult behaviour
- supporting adults to maintain health, well-being and resilience.
Learners who are interested in learning about the development and care of individuals throughout the life span from conception to later adulthood.
- AS Unit 1: Promoting health and well-being - Written exam: 2 hours
- AS Unit 2: Supporting health, well-being and resilience in Wales - Non-exam assessment: approximately 30 hours
- A2 Unit 5: Theoretical perspectives of adult behaviour - Written examination: 2 hours 30 minutes
- A2 Unit 6: Supporting adults to maintain health, well-being and resilience - Non-exam assessment: approximately 40 hours
Entry Criteria
6A*-C including Maths and English.
As part of the application process, you will be asked to attend an interview to give you the opportunity to discuss the course.
Progression to A Level is based on your performance at AS Level.

Welsh Baccalaureate
Welsh Baccalaureate is a valuable qualification which is often studied alongside your Level 3 full-time course.
The qualification is graded A*-E, carrying the equivalent UCAS points at Level 3, and equips you with transferable personal and business skills. It is highly regarded by universities and employers alike.
As part of the qualification, you will learn about Global Citizenship, Enterprise and Employability and take part in community engagement and work experience.
Essential Skills
This may include a combination of Application of Number, Communication, Digital Literacy and Essential Employability Skills
GCSE resits
This may include GCSE Numeracy/Maths and/or Welsh/English Language.
Maths & Welsh/English
If you don't achieve a C or above in Maths and/ or English/Welsh, we will support you to retake these subjects as part of your study programme.
Assessment
The course is divided into four units. Two AS units and two A2 units: two units plus two A2 units relating to a chosen pathway. 50% internal assessment and 50% external assessment.
Progression
Progression into employment at trainee level within a range of health, social care and child care environments.
Progression into further qualifications in a variety of HND or degree level courses in health, social care and child care-related subjects such as midwifery.
