Course Description

For those wishing to pursue a career in makeup or related industries or those with a string interest in this subject and wishing to expand their knowledge and skills.

What will you study?

The course consists of the following units:

Fashion and photographic make up

Promote & sell products & services to clients

Client care and communication

Monitor and maintain health and safety

In addition you will study:

Level 2 Award in Infection Prevention

Entry Criteria

Entry requirements:

A level 2 makeup qualification or the equivalent level of makeup experience.

It is not essential for applicants to hold a previous beauty or makeup qualification. However, the equivalent of level 2 makeup experience and skills are required.

- You must be enthusiastic and able to demonstrate a passion for the makeup industry.
- You must have a calm and well-groomed appearance.
- You will be required to attend an interview and provide evidence of makeup skills.
- You will be expected to purchase a kit, uniform and text book.

Delivery

The course is part time and will run over two terms from January to mid June.

It will be delivered during the daytime with our full time level 3 makeup learners and will be 3 hours per week.

Your learning may include the following delivery methods:

  • Remote classes and online learning.

  • Home study and practical skill building.

  • Practical workshops in the college salons.

  • Assessment in the RWE, (Realistic Working Environment).

  • Video’s and demonstrations.

  • Group work including practical skill building on your peers.

  • Written work and revision tasks.

  • Assignments, research, design and planning.

  • Online exams

Your programme will include a combination of:

  • Essential Skills qualifications and/or
  • GCSE resits and/or
  • The Welsh Baccalaureate
Welsh Baccalaureate

Welsh Baccalaureate is a valuable qualification which is often studied alongside your Level 3 full-time course.

The qualification is graded A*-E, carrying the equivalent UCAS points at Level 3, and equips you with transferable personal and business skills. It is highly regarded by universities and employers alike.

As part of the qualification, you will learn about Global Citizenship, Enterprise and Employability and take part in community engagement and work experience.

Essential Skills

This may include a combination of Application of Number, Communication, Digital Literacy and Essential Employability Skills

GCSE resits

This may include GCSE Numeracy/Maths and/or Welsh/English Language.

Maths & Welsh/English

If you don't achieve a C or above in Maths and/ or English/Welsh, we will support you to retake these subjects as part of your study programme.

Assessment

The course is assessed through a blend of the following:

- Portfolio of practical assessments for each unit.
- Assignments and research tasks.
- Multiple-choice online tests covering the underpinning knowledge
- Your behaviour will also count towards your assessment, in terms of maturity, professionalism, personal development, interaction and communication.
