Course Description

This course is designed to give the knowledge and understanding to those working in or wanting to work in the childcare sector.

This course is in two parts, the Core which is theory-based, and the Practical qualification. It is possible to complete the core element if an individual is not in a childcare environment.

Entry Criteria

Be working in the childcare sector for a minimum of 16 hours per week.

All places are subject to satisfactory interview.

Delivery

The majority of training is provided in the workplace/online

You will be assigned an electronic portfolio and an assessor will support you on a monthly basis either by a visit to your workplace or through a video call.

Assessment

  • Completion of a portfolio of evidence (Using the Onefile Eportfolio).

  • Your assessor will arrange to visit your workplace to assess your competency supporting pupils with literacy, numeracy and ICT tasks. You will also need to show your competency in encouraging positive behaviour, adhering to Health and Safety policies and procedures, and showing effective support and communication skills with pupils and members of the team.

The Core qualification - 2 exams and a detailed portfolio of work including reflections.

The Practice qualification - a minimum of 6 observations are needed which will involve planning, being observed and reflecting on practice.

The qualification will be marked by a workplace assessor and moderated by the internal quality assurer.

Progression

If your job role allows you can progress onto the CCPLD Level 3 qualification.
