Course Description

Our suite of digital literacy courses are aimed at those who want a gentle and informal approach to learning how to use technology. Friendly and approachable tutors deliver the sessions, and lessons are planned to meet the interests of those attending and can be enjoyed as part of career development of learning for pleasure.

You will build on the skills learnt during the beginners’ course.

You will extend your internet searching skills using more advanced search techniques and evaluate and critically analyse the authenticity of information found online.

You will use your email account for different purposes, making use of the applications that are available to you, such as the storage drive for files and folders and the online office tools.

You are welcome to Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)

Entry Criteria

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

Students will be expected to demonstrate their commitment to complete the full 10 weeks.

You may be asked to complete an initial assessment-screening tool to help us decide which course is right for you.

Delivery

Teaching and learning will take place in the classroom with an emphasis on practising the skills shown in the class at home.

Delivery will be varied to suit individual styles and will include:

  • presentations and instruction from your tutors
  • independent research
  • assignment tasks/projects

Assessment

Assessment will be based on a portfolio of work produced throughout the course. You will need to demonstrate that you can work independently to complete the tasks set, assessment will be through observation during the sessions by the tutor who delivers the course.

All students will be asked to complete a Personal Development Plan, which will identify personal learning targets and reasons for attending the course. At the end of each session, you will complete a reflective review of the skills learnt and identify difficulties and successes, this helps us to make sure you only move onto the next step when you feel confident and ready to do so.
