Please note: We recommend that you have access to a laptop or Chromebook to enable coursework to be completed digitally at home. There is a dedicated IT Digital Inclusion fund to support those learners who do not have a digital device and are unable to purchase one.

Course Description

This qualification is designed to cover the fundamental skills and knowledge common to all engineering pathways and in preparation for Engineering Level 3. You will gain skills in all aspects of the engineering sector.

Entry Criteria

In order to qualify for this course you will need the following:

  • 4 GCSEs A* - C including 1 st Language English or Welsh and Mathematics or Numeracy.

As part of the application process you will be asked to attend an interview to give you the opportunity to discuss the course.

Delivery

The programme will be delivered through a blend of the following:

  • Practical workshop sessions
  • Classroom sessions
  • Student centered work
  • Demonstrations
  • Discussions
  • Virtual learning environment
  • Assignments
  • Exams
  • You may need to complete 150 hours of work experience.

The programme will be assessed through a blend of the following:

  • Performance and observation
  • Demonstration of practical skills
  • Online examinations

Progression

Completion of this course gives a number of options for progression, including a full-time Engineering Level 3 course in order to further develop your knowledge, skills and prospects.

Alternatively, you could apply for an apprenticeship and attend college on a day release basis.

This is an industry-recognised qualification that develops engineering knowledge and skills.

Successful completion of this course allows you to progress to the following Level 3 courses.

  • Engineering Level 3
  • Apprenticeship Level 3 in Engineering
