    The Health & Social Care qualifications are divided up into two parts - the core, which is knowledge-based, and the practice. It can take up to up to 18 months for the full qualifications to be achieved. However for PLA funding, it is just the core element of the qualification that is offered and will only be up to 6 months.

    It is possible to progress to the practical element of the qualification after securing employment in the sector and being accepted to do an apprenticeship.

Course Description

The core element is theory-based and so is aimed at those either already working in the sector or those wanting to develop a career within the Health & Social Care sector. This will include those working in residential settings, nursing settings, mental health settings and learning disability settings to name a few.

This qualification is required for learners to work in specific job roles within the health and social care sector as set out in Social Care Wales Qualification Framework for Social care and Child care

The Level 2 Health & Social care qualification will enable learners to develop and demonstrate their knowledge, understanding, behaviours, skills and practice within a health and social care setting.

Entry Criteria

Learners must undertake a satisfactory interview and skill scanning process and also meet the requirements of PLA funding (for the full qualification individuals must be contracted in the sector for a minimum of 16 hours per week).

Delivery

Self-study, online 1-1 with some newly developed possible taught sessions

Assessment

1 multiple choice exam which is externally assessed.

Completion of a portfolio of evidence (Using the Onefile e-portfolio).

Progression

On successful completion of the core element then it is possible to progress to the practical element of the qualification thus enabling an individual to gain the full Level 2 or 3 qualification in Health & Social Care.

To gain the practical element an individual must be employed within the sector for a minimum of 16 hours and either be successful in gaining a place on the apprenticeship route that is fully funded by WG or pay for this element commercially.
