Entry Criteria

The Level 4 Diploma in Principles of Leadership and Management is designed to develop aspiring middle managers and first line managers. Learners build core skills in middle management. The Diploma also forms part of the ILM Level 4 Management Apprenticeship .

Delivery

College sessions/lecture, group work, personal study and completion of work based assignments and reflective practice.

Assessment

Understanding the management role to improve management performance – Work Based Assignment - This assignment requires you to understand the specific responsibilities of middle managers in enabling an organisation to achieve its goals. Understand how communication and interpersonal skills affect managerial performance in the workplace, and be able to assess personal development opportunities to improve own managerial performance.

Delegating Authority in the Workplace - Work Based Assignment – This assignment requires you to understand the benefits of delegation, in order to be able to delegate effectively in the workplace, and be able to identify improvements in own ability to delegate and empower others

Assessing your own leadership Capability and Performance – Work Based Assignment – This assignment requires you to understand leadership styles within an organisation, and be able to review effectiveness of own leadership capability and performance in meeting organisational values and goals, by adopting an effective leadership style to motivate staff to achieve organisational values and goals.

Managing personal development – Personal Development Portfolio - This related development requirements, be able to implement and evaluate planned development activities and apply learning in the workplace, and understand the impact of development on workplace performance, for a minimum of six months.

Managing and implementing change in the workplace and Understanding and developing relationships in the workplace - Work Based Assignment – This combined assignment requires you to understand the reasons for change in an organisation, , identifying and meeting the needs and/or expectations of others, and manage relationships whilst implementing change in the workplace.

Managing meetings - Work Based Assignment – This assignment requires you to understand different types of meetings and their suitability for different purposes, and how to prepare effectively for a meeting. Be able to develop own performance in managing meetings, and follow up and effectively manage actions from meetings
