Course Description

This apprenticeship is designed for those who are seeking to / currently working behind a bar or in customer-facing role in the bar area. It has been developed to meet the specific needs of the licensed hospitality industry. Apprentices working in these roles are likely to undertake a range of activities such as serving food and drink, taking payment, working in the cellar, stock taking, marketing, training and motivating other staff as well as other activities. Topics covered through this qualification are: legal and social responsibilities of a personal licence holder, food safety in catering, health and safety in the workplace, alcohol awareness, drugs awareness in licensed premises, principles of conflict management in licensed hospitality, principles of customer service in hospitality, leisure travel and tourism, licensed retail operations.

Entry Criteria

  • All apprentices must have an employer who can cover the QCF criteria.
  • No formal qualifications are required but experience in the hospitality industry is desirable.
  • All places are subject to satisfactory interview.

Delivery

The majority of training is provided in the workplace. Attendance at college-based sessions to complete theory tasks and tests is essential.

  • Theory based tasks and tests

Progression

Progression from this framework could be into supervisory or junior management roles within licensed hospitality.
