Teenage College Athlete Gets Scholarship Offers from USA Universities
A 17-year-old student athlete from Coleg Llandrillo who was crowned 1500m Welsh steeplechase junior champion, is now about to achieve his educational goal after receiving scholarship offers to study sport at universities in the USA!
Bryn Woodall from Llanfairfechan recently competed in a 5km race, and after a strong, well-paced performance, achieved the university scholarship qualifying time of 14 minutes and 45 seconds!
This impressive feat has already resulted in Bryn receiving a couple of offers already from universities in the north west region of America. He is currently a second-year Outdoor Education student at the college’s Rhos-on-Sea campus, studying on the Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Sport and Outdoor Activities course.
Bryn is no stranger to success. As well as his being crowned Wales steeplechase champion, he also gained fourth place in the hotly-contested Welsh Athletics Cross-Country Championships just before the first lockdown, which saw him qualify to represent Wales in the London Mini Marathon, which was unfortunately postponed due to the pandemic. He has also represented Wales at the British & Irish Mountain Running Championships and in the Stirling Cross-Challenge, as well as qualifying for the British 3 miles Road Championships.
Bryn said: “I was delighted to gain the qualifying time for an American university scholarship. I will be studying either sports physiology or sport and environment. I have not fully decided which offer to accept yet, but it is nice to have several options.”
“I am really enjoying my college course, because I have always had a passion for the great outdoors. I have made many great friends on the course who share a passion for all things outdoors too.”
