Tyddyn Isaf Camping & Caravan Park
Tyddyn Isaf is set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty overseeing Lligwy bay on the north east coast of Anglesey, in the village of Dulas. There has been camping on this site since 1946, and the family business has long been committed to doing all it can to help protect the environment and the earth’s resources.
Using low energy lighting, making use of recycling stations, and taking weekly records of water meters to measure usage are just some of the pro-active practices the park already has in place. Keen to take this further Tyddyn Isaf signed up for the Green Digital Academy to receive advice from experts and ensure that they are on the right path to an even greener business.
The challenge - REACHING NET ZERO by 2030
Hayley Mount-Leonard, one of the park owners outlines the company’s environmental vision: “At Tyddyn Isaf we consider conservation to be a way of life, and over the years we have gone to great lengths to make our park as green as possible, aiming to achieve a balance of good management whilst preserving and maintaining the natural environment wherever possible.” Bulk gas propane and the use of fossil fuels for heating contribute the most to Tyddyn Isaf’s carbon emissions. Electricity use is also considered an emission hot spot at the site. With their Green Digital Academy report complete the business can now address these areas as it aims for net zero by 2030.
What the experts say - TACKLING EMISSIONS
The team at Tyddyn Isaf is already working to minimise its carbon footprint - with LED lights, proximity switches, and a solar array to charge electric vehicles on site. Some of the additional recommendations made by the scheme’s local consultant include installing additional solar PV to reduce cost and usage as well as consider options for a charging system for hook-up points on touring pitches. It is also recommended that the business should look at the potential extension of the on-site woodland for in house off-setting as well as investigating renewable power tariffs.
The outcome - A PATHWAY TO CARBON REDUCTION
Hayley believes the report will benefit their family business: “We are pleased that the report recognises the work we are already doing on site to reduce our emissions. Thanks to the expertise provided through the Green Digital Academy, we are now clear on what our next steps should be to reaching net zero as we aim to do more for the benefit of the environment and climate.”
