AUTOMOTIVE DEPARTMENT INTRODUCES NEW HYBRID ELECTRIC COURSE

Coleg Menai’s Automotive Department at Llangefni recently delivered its first Hybrid Electric maintenance course.

Learners from local garages spent three days in the college completing the City and Guilds Level 2 and Level 3 Award in Hybrid Electric Repair and Replacement.

The exciting new course teaches learners how to work safely on High Voltage Automotive systems and includes assessments on isolating the High Voltage batteries and removing high voltage components.

The Automotive Department has recently invested approximately £62,000 in purchasing various hybrid electric vehicles and equipment, including a fully electric Volkswagen E-Golf, Toyota Yaris, and a Toyota Hybrid Electric rig.

Damian Woodford, Programme Area Manager for Engineering, said,

“This is an exciting development within the department as we aim to deliver the latest training required by the industry”

“Upon starting the course, the learners were apprehensive of working with Hybrid and Electric cars. It was great to see that after finishing the course, they were confident in being able to work on Electric and Hybrid vehicles safely and effectively”.
