Angel Feathers

Angel Feathers is a small family run distillery in Denbighshire, North Wales producing gin, vodka and rum with nature and sustainability at its core. Located on the Moel Famau, the highest peak in the Clwydian Range, everything is picked, prepared and crafted in their own kitchen boasting a five star food hygiene rating.

The distillery is a member of the Clwydian Food Trail and only traditional methods are used for each individual small batch, maintaining very high standards to ensure a quality product that captures each characteristic flavour in full.

Support received from the Food Technology Centre

With funding from Project HELIX, the Food Technology Centre was able to support the business by carrying out chemical analysis on a range of artisan alcohol based beverages to validate their manufacturing processes and to ensure HMRC compliance. The Food Technology Centre carried out % ABV (Alcohol By Volume) on a total of ten different flavoursome craft gin, rum and vodkas. With this information Angel Feathers were able to verify and validate their alcohol content, allowing them to move forward with their final product labelling.

Benefits of the support

Katherine Wilding, founder of Angel Feathers said, “Wherever possible, we grow our own fruits and botanicals to ensure we always have the freshest ingredients to hand.

“We take pride in selecting the best fruits from our Moel Famau micro fruitery on a sunny morning, so we can capture the ripe flavours at their peak. We care about the environment, working in harmony with nature using organic principles to grow and nurture our fruits, herbs and flowers, therefore ensuring our products are correctly labelled is fundamental.

“The work undertaken by the Food Technology Centre was vital for our business as we have to comply with all alcoholic beverage labelling regulations for spirits in the UK to be able to sell our products to the general public. The food technologist worked efficiently and quickly so we could garner the information for the labelling process.”
