Tiwtor o Goleg Llandrillo a Enillodd Wobr BAFTA yn cael ei Benodi'n Un o Gyfarwyddwyr Esports Wales

Mae creadigaethau Rob Griffiths, sy’n ddarlithydd ar gampws Coleg Llandrillo yn Llandrillo-yn-Rhos ers 2017, wedi gwerthu yn eu miliynau. Erbyn hyn ef sy'n arwain yr adran ac mae'n defnyddio ei gysylltiadau â'r diwydiant er budd ei fyfyrwyr ac i sicrhau eu bod yn cyrraedd eu llawn botensial.

Safodd ei arholiadau Lefel A yn Ysgol y Creuddyn ym Mae Penrhyn cyn mynd ymlaen i Brifysgol Glyndŵr yn Wrecsam i astudio am radd mewn Datblygu Gemau. Wedi gadael y brifysgol, cafodd Rob ei swydd gyntaf gyda Sony, gan weithio ar Minecraft – gêm hynod boblogaidd a fu'n llwyddiant masnachol ysgubol. O fewn pythefnos i ddechrau gweithio gyda Sony, cafodd Rob gynnig swydd gyda TT Games. Ymhen ychydig fisoedd, roedd wedi symud o swydd sicrhau ansawdd i fod yn ddylunydd ar gemau adnabyddus a aeth ymlaen i ennill sawl gwobr.

Roedd Rob, sy'n byw yn Hen Golwyn ond sy'n wreiddiol o Landrillo-yn-Rhos, yn rhan o'r tîm a ddyluniodd Lego Dimensions a gipiodd wobr BAFTA am y "Gêm Orau i Blant" yn 2016. Yn ystod ei gyfnod gyda TT Games bu Rob hefyd yn gweithio ar Lego Star Wars – The Force Awakens; The Lego Ninjago Movie Game; Lego Dimensions – Years 1 & 2; Lego Batman a Lego Marvel’s Avengers!

Meddai Rob: "Fy nod ydi ysbrydoli'r myfyrwyr a hyrwyddo'r diwydiant gemau yng Nghymru. Yn ystod y cyfnod cymharol fyr rydw i wedi bod yma, mae myfyrwyr y coleg wedi gwneud argraff fawr arna i ac mae ganddyn nhw syniadau arloesol iawn am ddatblygu gemau."

Dyma oedd gan John Jackson, Prif Weithredwr / Cyfarwyddwr Esports Wales i'w ddweud am benodiad Rob: "Mae'n wych bod Rob yn ymuno â'r bwrdd. Mae'n amlwg bod ganddo brofiad helaeth ym maes addysg a diwydiant. Mae cael rhywun sydd wedi'i leoli yng Ngogledd Cymru yn golygu y gall Esports Wales yn awr fynd ati i gefnogi a datblygu e-chwaraeon drwy Gymru gyfan."

Mae adran Datblygu Gemau Coleg Llandrillo wedi cael llwyddiant anhygoel dros y blynyddoedd diwethaf gan sicrhau partneriaethau gyda rhai o frandiau electroneg a gemau mwyaf llwyddiannus y byd.

Cafodd ei chofrestru'n ddatblygwr i gwmnïau Xbox a Nintendo – yr adran gyntaf o bosibl mewn unrhyw brifysgol neu goleg yn y Deyrnas Unedig i gael braint o'r fath! Ar ben hyn, mae'r coleg hefyd yn rhan o raglen academaidd fyd-eang Sony Interactive Entertainment - PlayStation®First. Mae'r rhaglen, sy'n cael ei rhedeg gan Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe (SIEE), yn golygu bod staff a myfyrwyr yn gallu defnyddio adnoddau caledwedd a meddalwedd y cwmni i ddatblygu'n broffesiynol. Golyga hyn fod myfyrwyr yn cael defnyddio'r un meddalwedd â stiwdios gemau ar draws y byd, ac yn gallu creu gemau arloesol, newydd, ar gyfer PlayStation... yn eu hystafell ddosbarth!

Mae Coleg Llandrillo wedi dangos ei fod yn datblygu ei ymarfer yn gyson i addysgu'r cynnwys diweddaraf bosibl gan gadw i fyny gyda'r newidiadau yn y diwydiant gemau. Mae wedi dod yn hwb Transfuzer ac yn ddiweddar wedi agor ystafelloedd realiti rhithwir gwerth £120,000 er mwyn i fyfyrwyr allu datblygu eu prosiectau realiti rhithwir eu hunain. Mae yna hyd yn oed dîm Esports wedi'i sefydlu yn y coleg.

Rob Griffiths, whose creations have sold in their millions, has been lecturing at Coleg Llandrillo’s Rhos-on-Sea campus since 2017. He now leads the department and utilises his own industry connections to ensure his students benefit and reach their full potential.

Rob sat his A-levels at Ysgol y Creuddyn in Penrhyn Bay before going on to study for a three-year degree in Games Development. After leaving university, Rob got his first job with Sony, working on the mega-game - and industry blockbuster - Minecraft. Within two weeks of starting work with Sony, Rob was offered a position at TT Games. Within a few months, he went from a quality assurance position to a games designer on multi-award winning games.

Rob, who lives in Old Colwyn but is originally from Rhos-on-Sea, was part of the design team that scooped the BAFTA award, ‘Best Children’s Game 2016’, for Lego Dimensions. During his time at TT Games, Rob was also involved in creating Lego Star Wars – The Force Awakens; The Lego Ninjago Movie Game; Lego Dimensions - Years 1 & 2; Lego Batman and Lego Marvel’s Avengers!

Rob said: “My aims are to inspire the students and to promote the gaming industry within Wales. During the relatively short time I have been at the college, I have been really impressed with the students and their innovative ideas for games development.”

John Jackson, Esports Wales CEO / director, commented on Rob’s appointment: “It’s great to have Rob join the board. Rob’s experience in industry and education speaks for itself. Having someone situated within North Wales means that Esports Wales can now look to support and develop the scene throughout the whole of Wales.”

Coleg Llandrillo’s Games Development department has had an unbelievable few years after securing partnerships with some of the world’s most successful electronics and gaming brands.

It has been registered as both Xbox and Nintendo developers, which is a possible first for any college or university in the UK! Further to this, it is now part of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s global academic programme - PlayStation®First. Run by Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe (SIEE), it provides access to professional development hardware and software tools for both staff and students. This means that students get to use the same hardware that games studios around the world are using, thus enabling them to create ground-breaking, innovative games on PlayStation…in their own classrooms!

Coleg Llandrillo has shown that it is continually developing its practice to teach the most up-to-date content possible and keep up with the changes in the games industry. It has become a Tranzfuser hub and has also recently opened a £120,000 VR (virtual reality) suite specifically for students to develop their own VR projects. It has even set up a guided Esports team within the college.
