Coleg Llandrillo'n croesawu Comisiynydd y Gymraeg

Fis Ionawr eleni y dechreuodd Efa Gruffudd Jones yn ei swydd ac mae ganddi ddiddordeb arbennig mewn cynyddu cyfleoedd i bobl ifanc ddysgu a defnyddio'r Gymraeg.

Fel y sefydliad Addysg Bellach sy'n darparu'r nifer uchaf o gyrsiau a phrentisiaethau dwyieithog yng Nghymru a thu hwnt, mae'r Grŵp yn cydnabod bod ganddo ran allweddol i'w chwarae yn y gwaith o gefnogi uchelgais Comisiynydd y Gymraeg a Llywodraeth Cymru o gyrraedd y targed o filiwm o siaradwyr Cymraeg erbyn 2050.

Dechreuodd yr ymweliad gyda thrafodaeth rhwng y Comisiynydd newydd, y Prif Weithredwr, Dafydd Evans, ac uwch reolwyr eraill fel Lawrence Wood, Pennaeth Coleg Llandrillo, James Nelson, Uwch Gyfarwyddwr y Gwasanaethau Academaidd a Gwennan Richards, Cyfarwyddwr Datblygu Dwyieithrwydd, Adnoddau Dysgu a Sgiliau, ynghylch arfer da a chynlluniau'r Grŵp ar gyfer hybu dysgu drwy gyfrwng y Gymraeg a'r defnydd o'r iaith ymhlith dysgwyr a staff, ynghyd â'r heriau cyffredinol sy'n wynebu'r sector.

Yn dilyn y drafodaeth, cafodd y Comisiynydd y cyfle i weld â'i llygaid ei hun y cyfleoedd dysgu ac addysgu dwyieithog rhagorol a geir yn y coleg wrth ymweld â'r adrannau Iechyd a Gofal Cymdeithasol, Chwaraeon a Gwasanaethau Cyhoeddus, a Lletygarwch. Cyfarfu'r Comisiynydd â dysgwyr a thiwtoriaid Cymraeg eu hiaith ar y campws i drafod sut mae'r iaith yn cael ei defnyddio mewn cyrsiau.

Meddai Efa Gruffudd Jones, Comisiynydd y Gymraeg: “Ro'n i'n falch iawn o gael ymweld â champws Llandrillo a chael cwrdd â'r staff, ac yn bwysicach fyth, y myfyrwyr eu hunain.

"O'r dechrau, rydw i wedi pwysleisio bod cysylltu â phlant a phobl a phobl ifanc yn flaenoriaeth i mi gan fod angen i ni ddeall sut a pham maen nhw'n defnyddio'r Gymraeg, un ai mewn lleoliadau addysgol neu'r tu allan gyda'u ffrindiau a'u teuluoedd.

"Mi gawsom ni drafodaethau diddorol ac mi ges fy nghalonogi gan agwedd y myfyrwyr a chan y ffordd gadarnhaol ac adeiladol mae'r coleg yn mynd ati i gynnig darpariaeth Gymraeg."

⁠Meddai James Nelson, Uwch Gyfarwyddwr Gwasanaethau Academaidd, Grŵp Llandrillo Menai: "Pleser oedd cael croesawu'r Comisiynydd i'n campws yn Llandrillo-yn-Rhos, ac roedd yn dda gweld ei bod hi'n frwd iawn i glywed llais ein pobl ifanc.

"Mae Grŵp Llandrillo Menai wedi ymrwymo i ddarparu addysg ddwyieithog effeithiol sy'n rhoi digon o gyfleoedd i bobl ifanc ddysgu drwy gyfrwng y Gymraeg."

Yng Nghymru a thu hwnt, mae'r Grŵp yn arwain y ffordd ar ddarparu addysg a phrofiadau yn y Gymraeg a'r Saesneg. Mae'r Grŵp yn darparu dros ddwy ran o dair o'r cyrsiau cyfrwng Gymraeg a dwyieithog yn y sector Addysg Bellach ac mae hefyd yn cynnig cyfran helaeth o'i gyrsiau Addysg Uwch drwy gyfrwng y Gymraeg. Rydym yn cynnig prentisiaethau amrywiol yn y Gymraeg ac mae llawer o'r cyrsiau a gynigiwn yn y gymuned hefyd ar gael yn y Gymraeg neu'n ddwyieithog.

Efa Gruffudd Jones took up the role in January this year and is particularly interested in increasing opportunities for young people to learn and use the Welsh language.

As the Further Education organisation offering the highest number of bilingual courses and apprenticeships in Wales and beyond, the Grŵp recognises its key role in supporting the Welsh Language Commissioner and the Welsh Government’s ambition to reach a million Welsh speakers by the year 2050.

The informal visit started with a discussion between the new Commissioner and the Chief Executive, Dafydd Evans, and other senior managers including Lawrence Wood, Principal of Coleg Llandrillo; James Nelson, Executive Director of Academic Services and Gwennan Richards, Director of Bilingual Development, Learning Resources and Skills, regarding the good practice and schemes across the Grŵp to promote learning and using Welsh amongst learners and staff, along with challenges facing the sector as a whole.

Following the discussion, the Commissioner had the opportunity to see first-hand the excellent bilingual teaching and learning opportunities within the college whilst visiting the Health and Social Care, Sports and Public Services and Hospitality and Catering departments on the campus. The Commissioner met with Welsh speaking learners and tutors to discuss how the Welsh language was embedded into courses.

Efa Gruffudd Jones, Welsh Language Commissioner, said: “I was delighted to be able to visit the Llandrillo campus and meet with the staff and more importantly the students themselves. From the outset I have emphasised that engaging with children and young people is a priority for me as we need to understand how and why they use Welsh, either within an educational setting or outside with their friends and families.

“The discussions I had were very enlightening and I was heartened, both by the students’ attitudes and the college’s positive and constructive approach to its Welsh language delivery.”

James Nelson, Executive Director of Academic Services at Grŵp Llandrillo Menai, said: “It was a pleasure to welcome the Commissioner to our campus in Rhos-on-Sea, and it’s encouraging that she was very eager to hear the views of our young people.”

The Grŵp provides over two thirds of the Welsh medium and bilingual courses in the Further Education sector and offers a high proportion of Higher Education courses through the medium of Welsh.
