Myfyrwyr o Goleg Menai'n cymryd rhan mewn Her Chwaraeon Moduro ar Drac Môn
Y penwythnos hwn, bydd myfyrwyr o Goleg Menai'n cymryd rhan yn yr Her Chwaraeon Moduro i Fyfyrwyr ar Drac Môn.
Mae myfyrwyr y cwrs Chwaraeon Moduro ar gampws Llangefni wedi trawsnewid Peugeot 107 yn gerbyd parod i'w rasio a nhw hefyd fydd yn gofalu amdano mewn ras yn erbyn saith coleg arall.
Hywel Rosenthal, perchennog garej Star Autocare, Gaerwen fydd yn rasio'r car.
Bydd yn cystadlu yn erbyn gyrwyr profiadol eraill, gan fod yr Her Chwaraeon Moduro i Fyfyrwyr yn rhan o Bencampwriaeth y City Cup, sef cyfres o bedair ras a gynhelir ar Drac Môn.
Bydd y ras ragbrofol ac un ras arall yn cael eu cynnal ddydd Sadwrn, ac yna fe gynhelir y ddwy ras arall ddydd Sul ar drac Tŷ Croes.
Fel rhan o'r prosiect mae myfyrwyr y cwrs BTEC Lefel 3 mewn Peirianneg Chwaraeon Moduro eisoes wedi mwynhau diwrnod ar drac Tŷ Croes. Byddant yn treulio dydd Gwener ar y trac yn paratoi at y digwyddiad, ac yn dychwelyd ddydd Sadwrn a dydd Sul i roi eu sgiliau peirianyddol a mecanyddol ar waith a chadw'r car mewn cyflwr rasio da.
Dywedodd eu tiwtor, Arron Peel: “Maen nhw'n rhoi eu sgiliau ymarferol ar waith, ac yn adeiladu cerbyd fydd yn cael ei yrru mewn ras go iawn.
“Mae'r prosiect yn sicr wedi ennyn diddordeb y dysgwyr, ac mae eu presenoldeb wedi bod yn wych. Maen nhw'n dysgu sgiliau galwedigaethol ac yn ennill cymhwyster academaidd a all eu helpu i fynd ymlaen i'r brifysgol.”
Y cynllun yn ôl Arron yw cystadlu yn yr Her Chwaraeon Modur eto'r flwyddyn nesaf, ond gan gynnwys meysydd rhaglen eraill fel chwaraeon, lletygarwch a busnes ar gyfer elfennau fel ffitrwydd, arlwyo a marchnata.
Coleg Menai yn Llangefni yw'r unig goleg yng ngogledd Cymru sy'n cynnal y cwrs BTEC Lefel 3 mewn Peirianneg Chwaraeon Moduro. I gael rhagor o wybodaeth am y cwrs, cliciwch yma.
Motorsport students at the Llangefni campus will provide the pit crew for a Peugeot 107 which they have themselves transformed into a race-ready vehicle to compete against seven other colleges.
The car will be raced by Hywel Rosenthal, the owner of Star Auto Care garage in Gaerwen, Anglesey.
He will compete against a host of other experienced drivers, as the Student Motorsport Challenge forms part of the CityCar Cup Championship, which takes place over four races at Trac Môn.
There will be a qualifying race on Saturday, followed by another race the same day and two more on Sunday at the Tŷ Croes circuit.
The BTEC Level 3 in Motorsport Engineering students have already enjoyed a track day at the Tŷ Croes circuit as part of the project. They will spend Friday at the track setting up for the event, returning on Saturday and Sunday to put their engineering and mechanical skills to the test and keep the car in top shape.
Their tutor Arron Peel said: “They’re putting their practical skills to use, building a vehicle that’s going to be used in an actual event.
“It’s kept the learners engaged and focused, and attendance has been fantastic. They’re learning vocational skills with an academic qualification which can help them progress onto university.”
Arron said the plan is to compete in the Student Motorsport Challenge again next year, but to also involve other subject areas such as sports, hospitality and business, for aspects such as conditioning and fitness, event catering and marketing.
