Ethol Llywydd Undeb Myfyrwyr y Grŵp yn Aelod o Bwyllgor UCM Cymru
Yn ystod cynhadledd flynyddol Undeb Cenedlaethol Myfyrwyr (UCM) Cymru a gynhaliwyd yn ddiweddar, etholwyd Llywydd Undeb Myfyrwyr Addysg Uwch Grŵp Llandrillo Menai yn aelod o grŵp llywio'r corff gan ennill un o'r ddwy sedd oedd ar gael.
Etholwyd Will Prys-Jones i fod yn aelod o bwyllgor Grŵp Llywio UCM Cymru er gwaetha'r ffaith iddo orfod llunio araith ar frys noson cyn y gynhadledd - araith a oedd i'w chyflwyno i’r cynrychiolwyr i'w hannog i bleidleisio drosto.
Dangosodd Will bod 'Llais y Dysgwr' yn bwysig iawn iddo, ac eglurodd ei fod yn ymgysylltu'n gyson gyda myfyrwyr Addysg Uwch ac Addysg Bellach GLlM mewn digwyddiadau, grwpiau ffocws, paneli dysgwyr a chyfarfodydd rheoli. Yn ogystal, Will yw Llywydd Myfyrwyr Addysg Uwch y Grŵp sy'n cynnwys Coleg Llandrillo, Coleg Menai a Choleg Meirion-Dwyfor.
Lleisiodd Will ei angerdd dros Gymru a'i diwylliant a'i awydd i wthio am fwy o gyfleoedd i fyfyrwyr Cymru yn y dyfodol, oherwydd ar hyn o bryd mae 50% o bobl yn gadael Cymru i astudio/gweithio.
Sicrhau sedd ar Bwyllgor Grŵp Llywio UCM Cymru yw un o'r ffyrdd y gall myfyrwyr lywio ac archwilio gwaith UCM Cymru o ran ymgyrchoedd. Mae'r seddi hyn ar y pwyllgor yn ffordd o wneud yn siŵr bod y myfyrwyr yn rhan allweddol o'r broses o wneud penderfyniadau yn UCM Cymru. Yn awr bydd Will yn gallu cyfrannu at y gwaith o oruchwylio cynadleddau UCM Cymru yn y dyfodol a'r prosesau o ran casglu syniadau gan fyfyrwyr ac undebau myfyrwyr.
Hefyd yn y gynhadledd, cafodd corff Undeb Myfyrwyr Grŵp Llandrillo Menai gyfle i gyflwyno ac ateb cwestiynau ar y polisi 'Dysgu Cyfunol yn y Dyfodol'. Aeth y cynrychiolwyr ati i bleidleisio ar bolisi Undeb y Myfyrwyr a chynigiwyd mai dyma un o brif flaenoriaethau UCM Cymru.
Roedd ystod eclectig o siaradwyr gwadd yn bresennol, a phob un yn siarad ar amrywiaeth eang o bynciau: Iechyd Meddwl Myfyrwyr - Dr Alex George, Llysgennad Iechyd Meddwl Ieuenctid Prydain o fewn yr Adran Addysg.
Sgwrs gyda Kirsty Williams, AS, Gweinidog Addysg, a Gweithdy ar Ymgyrchoedd Etholiadol - Comisiwn Seneddol ac Etholiadol. Daeth y seminarau i ben gydag amrywiaeth eang o areithiau gan gynrychiolwyr UCM Cymru a Llywyddion UMC.
Mae Llais y Dysgwr a gweithdrefnau ymgysylltu â dysgwyr wedi ennill eu plwyf yn y Grŵp erbyn hyn, ac rydym yn falch iawn o'r ffaith bod dysgwyr wedi bod yn cymryd rhan weithredol yn yr Undeb Myfyrwyr Cenedlaethol. Mae Undeb Myfyrwyr Grŵp Llandrillo Menai wedi sicrhau llawer iawn o rolau pwysig o fewn UCM Cymru dros y blynyddoedd, yn cynnwys nifer o'n Cyn-lywyddion yn sicrhau lle ar Bwyllgor Llywio UCM Cymru: Roedd Carmen Ria Smith, Llywydd Undeb Myfyrwyr Coleg Menai, yn Is-lywydd UCM Cymru.
Will Prys-Jones was elected onto the NUS Wales Steering Group committee, despite having to hastily prepare his speech the night before the conference to present to delegates to encourage them to vote for him.
Will demonstrated his passion for the ‘student voice’, and explained about his continual engagement with Grŵp Llandrillo Menai’s further and higher education students at events, focus groups, learner panels, and management meetings. He is also the higher education student governor for the college group which comprises Coleg Llandrillo, Coleg Menai and Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor.
Will also stated how passionate he is about Wales, its culture, and how he wants to push for more opportunities for students within Wales in the future, as currently, 50% of people currently leave Wales to study / work.
NUS Wales Steering Group committee positions are one of the ways students shape and scrutinise NUS Wales' collective campaigning work. These committee positions are all about making sure students are an active part of decision making at NUS Wales. Will will now have an input in overseeing future NUS Wales’ conferences, and the processes for generating ideas from students and students' unions.
Also at the conference, Grŵp Llandrillo Menai’s student union body submitted, presented and answered questions on its 'Blended Learning in the Future' policy. Delegates voted on the student union’s policy and it has now been put forward as one of NUS Wales’ main priorities.
An eclectic range of guest speakers were in attendance, speaking on a wide range of topics: Student Mental Health - Dr Alex George, UK Youth Mental Health Ambassador within the Department for Education; In conversation with Kirsty Williams, MS, Minister for Education, and an Election Campaign Workshop - Senedd & Electoral Commission. The seminars culminated with a wide variety of speeches from NUS Wales’ delegates and NUS presidents.
The Grŵp has long established learner voice and learner engagement procedures and has a proud history of learners actively engaged in the National Student Union (NUS). Grŵp Llandrillo Menai's student union has a history of high profile positions within NUS Wales including several of our past student union presidents taking up roles on the NUS Wales Steering Committee: Carmen Ria Smith, alumni Coleg Menai student union president, was deputy president of NUS Wales.
