Sgiliau peirianneg myfyrwyr ar waith mewn asesiadau terfynol

Mae'r myfyrwyr o Ysgol Glan y Môr, Ysgol Eifionydd ac Ysgol Botwnnog wedi bod yn dilyn cwrs cymhwyster Lefel 2 mewn Peirianneg Gyffredinol ar gampws Hafan, Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor ym Mhwllheli, ochr yn ochr â'u cyrsiau TGAU.

⁠Maen nhw wedi dychwelyd i'w hysgolion ar ôl cwblhau asesiadau'r modiwl Cynnal a Chadw ym maes Peirianneg, er mwyn cwblhau eu cyrsiau TGAU.

Mae Emlyn Evans, rheolwr y ddarpariaeth i ddysgwyr rhwng 14 ac 16 oed yn Hafan, Pwllheli, yn gobeithio y bydd nifer ohonynt yn dychwelyd i Goleg Meirion-Dwyfor i ddatblygu eu sgiliau ymhellach, fel mae nifer o ddysgwyr a ddilynodd yr un cwrs y llynedd wedi gwneud.

Dywedodd: "Mae hi wedi bod yn flwyddyn dda i'r grŵp rhwng 14 ac 16 oed. Mae nifer o ddysgwyr eleni wedi cyflawni gwaith da iawn ac wedi dangos gallu i ddilyn gyrfa ym maes peirianneg yn y dyfodol.

Edrychwn ymlaen at groesawu'r rhai sydd eisiau datblygu eu sgiliau peirianneg ymhellach yn ôl i Hafan y flwyddyn nesaf. Hoffem ddymuno'r gorau i'r holl fyfyrwyr yn eu harholiadau TGAU a gobeithio y byddant yn cyflawni hyd eithaf eu gallu er mwyn mynd ymlaen i'r cam nesaf ym myd gwaith neu faes addysg bellach."

Roedd Gethin, Daniel a Loui yn y grŵp 14-16 oed o'r ysgolion hyn y llynedd. Eleni, maen nhw wedi datblygu eu gwybodaeth ymhellach a mynd ymlaen i ddilyn cwrs Lefel 3 mewn Peirianneg Gyffredinol Uwch ar gampws Hafan ym Mhwllheli a champws CAMDA yn Nolgellau.

Ar ôl cwblhau'r cwrs cynnal gwasanaeth sylfaenol fel rhan o gymhwyster Lefel 2 y llynedd, defnyddiodd myfyrwyr y cwrs Lefel 3 eu gwybodaeth ehangach i gwblhau gwasanaeth llawn ar yr un injan. ⁠ Dyma oedd aseiniad olaf y modiwl Cynnal a Chadw Offer Mecanyddol a oedd hefyd yn cynnwys peth gwaith yn ymwneud â datrys problemau technegol, er mwyn ychwanegu at eu set sgiliau. ⁠

Meddai Gethin: "Mi ddysgais i am beiriannau tanio mewnol a sut i gynnal gwasanaeth arno yn llwyddiannus ac mewn modd diogel yn ystod fy nghyfnod ar y cwrs Lefel 2 mewn Peirianneg Gyffredinol y llynedd.

Blwyddyn yn ddiweddarach, dw i'n dilyn cwrs Lefel 3 mewn Peirianneg Uwch yn Hafan ac wedi gwneud 150 o oriau profiad gwaith mewn garej lleol a 'di dysgu rhagor am injans a sut mae datrys problemau.

Rydw i'n mwynhau elfennau ymarferol y tasgau dysgu ble mae'r tiwtoriaid yn profi ac yn ymestyn ein gwybodaeth. Roeddwn i'n llawer mwy hyderus yn fy asesiad olaf eleni wrth fynd ati i wneud gwaith ar yr injan a'r system danwydd, ac roeddwn i'n defnyddio'r sgiliau datrys problemau rydw i wedi'u dysgu yn y garej i roi gwasanaeth i'r injan."

⁠Ymunodd prentisiaid o ‘Trafnidiaeth Cymru’ â'r myfyrwyr BTEC Lefel 3 hefyd, maen nhw'n dilyn llwybr prentisiaeth Lefel 3 mewn Peirianneg Gyffredinol ar gampws Dolgellau.

The students, from Ysgol Glan y Môr, Ysgol Eifionydd and Ysgol Botwnnog, have been studying the Level 2 qualification in General Engineering at Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor’s Hafan campus in Pwllheli, alongside their GCSE courses.

After completing their assessments for this year’s Engineering Maintenance module, they have now returned to their respective schools to complete their GCSEs.

Emlyn Evans, program leader for the 14-16 schools engineering provision at Hafan Pwllheli, hopes many will be inspired to return to Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor to develop their knowledge, after several of last year’s cohort did the same.

He said: “It’s been a good year for our 14-16 cohort. Many of our learners this year have performed very well and shown a good aptitude towards a future career in engineering.

“We look forward to welcoming those who want to develop their engineering skills further back to Hafan next year. We would like to wish all the learners the very best of luck in their upcoming GCSE examinations and hope they achieve their best potential to reach their next step into the world of work or further education.”

Last year, Gethin, Daniel and Loui were among the 14-16 cohort from the same schools. This year they have expanded their knowledge after continuing onto the Level 3 Enhanced General Engineering course at the Hafan campus in Pwllheli and the CAMDA campus in Dolgellau.

Having completed their basic service as part of the Level 2 qualification last year, this year the Level 3 students built on their knowledge by completing a full service of the same engine. This was their final assignment in the maintenance of mechanical equipment, which also incorporated problem-solving techniques in order to enhance their skill set.

Gethin said: "When I was studying the Level 2 in General Engineering at Hafan as part of my GCSEs, I had my first experience of learning about the internal combustion engine and carrying out a service on it safely and successfully.

“A year on, I am now following the Level 3 Enhanced Engineering course at Hafan, where I have gained 150 hours of work experience in a local garage and extended my knowledge about engines and how to approach a problem.

“I enjoy the practical learning tasks which the tutors give to test and extend our knowledge. In my final assessment this year I was much more confident in carrying out maintenance on the engine and the fuel system and using my problem-solving skills that I learned from the garage to service the engine.”

Joining the BTEC Level 3 students were apprentices from Trains for Wales who also follow the Level 3 apprenticeship route in General Engineering at the Dolgellau campus.
