Hyfforddwr Pêl-droed o UDA yn Rhannu ei Arbenigedd gyda Myfyrwyr Coleg

Daeth Tom Bowen, sy’n wreiddiol o Aberdyfi ond sydd bellach yn brif hyfforddwr tîm pêl-droed y Long Island Rough Riders, draw i rannu ei arbenigedd gyda myfyrwyr Chwaraeon a Gweithgareddau Awyr Agored Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor ar gampws Dolgellau.

Mae tîm Long Island Rough Riders yn South Huntington, Efrog Newydd. Wedi'i sefydlu ym 1994, mae'r tîm yn chwarae yng Nghynghrair Dau USL, pedwaredd haen pyramid pêl-droed America.

Mae gan Tom gysylltiadau cryf iawn â’r ardal, ac â Choleg Meirion-Dwyfor yn arbennig: mae ei dad yn gweithio yn y coleg, a’i fam yn gyn ddirprwy bennaeth yn Ysgol Tywyn.

Enillodd Tom ei radd Baglor mewn Gwyddoniaeth mewn Gwyddor Ymarfer Corff o Brifysgol Metropolitan Caerdydd yn 2012. Ar ôl adleoli i UDA, aeth ymlaen i ennill MBA o Brifysgol Long Island yn 2016, ac mae ar hyn o bryd yn dilyn gradd Meistr yn y Celfyddydau mewn Addysg Gorfforol ym Mhrifysgol Adelphi yn Efrog Newydd.

Dywedodd Simon John Evans, Pennaeth Chwaraeon a Gweithgareddau Awyr Agored ar gampws Dolgellau: "Roedd yn fraint cael croesawu Tom i'r coleg yn ddiweddar. Mae gan Tom stori wych i'w rhannu, sy'n dangos i'n myfyrwyr bod modd mynd yn bell a chyflawni cymaint wrth ddilyn cyrsiau chwaraeon. Mae’r cyfleoedd rydyn ni’n eu cynnig i’n myfyrwyr ar y cwrs hwn yn eang ac yn berthnasol i’w hastudiaethau.”

Ychwanegodd: "Os oes gennych chi ddiddordeb mewn chwaraeon fel pêl-droed, pêl-rwyd neu rygbi, neu rywbeth o fewn y maes gweithgareddau awyr agored, mae'r cwrs yn addas i chi. Fel y gwelwch o'r teitl, mae'n cwmpasu'r ddau lwybr gyrfa! Felly, yn eich aseiniadau Iechyd a Diogelwch, gallwch ymchwilio i'r ganolfan hamdden leol (Canolfan Glan Wnion), neu ddarparwr gweithgareddau awyr agored lleol fel Glan-llyn."

Tom Bowen, who is originally from Aberdyfi but is now the head coach of the Long Island Rough Riders football team, came over to share his expertise with Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor’s Sports and Outdoor Activities students at the college’s Dolgellau campus.

The Long Island Rough Riders team is based in South Huntington, New York. Founded in 1994, the team plays in USL League Two, the fourth tier of the American soccer pyramid.

Tom has very strong links with the area, and with Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor in particular: his father works at the college, and his mother is a former deputy headteacher at Ysgol Tywyn.

Tom earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science from Cardiff Metropolitan University in 2012. After relocating to the USA, he went on to gain an MBA from Long Island University in 2016, and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Physical Education at the Adelphi University in New York.

Simon John Evans, head of Sports and Outdoor Activities at the Dolgellau campus said: "It was a privilege to welcome Tom to the college recently. Tom has a great story to share, which shows our students that it is possible to go far and achieve so much when following sports courses. The opportunities we offer our students on this course are wide and relevant to their studies.”

He added: "If you are interested in sports such as football, netball or rugby, or something within the outdoor activities field, the course is suitable for you. As you can see from the title, it covers both career paths! So, for example, in your Health and Safety assignments, you can investigate the local leisure centre (Canolfan Glan Wnion), or a local outdoor activity provider such as Glan-llyn."
