Statistically, the number studying on university-level courses within the college group has increased steadily year-on-year. Today, Grŵp Llandrillo Menai has around 1,200 higher education students studying on 50 different degree courses across its three colleges: Coleg Llandrillo, Coleg Menai and Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor. Furthermore, over 400 students graduate each year at the Grŵp’s prestigious ceremony in Llandudno, many with first-class honours.
Most of the degree courses are offered at the multimillion pound University Centre in Rhos-on-Sea, with some programmes also available at the Bangor, Llangefni and Dolgellau campuses. The Grŵp’s local provision means that you can study for a degree on your doorstep, saving thousands of pounds and negating the reason to move away to university.
One sector which is currently thriving is Business and Management. The foundation degree in Business and Management is a two year undergraduate programme, with the option of studying a further year to gain a full BA honours degree in Business and Management.
The programme which is validated by Bangor University is focused on providing a range of business and management skills that equip you for the modern business world. This means studying essential business topics such as accounting and finance, marketing, economics and human resource management. But also contemporary issues and subjects such as corporate social responsibility, business analytics and digital marketing.
Osian Jones, lecturer in Business and Management at Coleg Llandrillo, said: “Our students benefit from studying locally in smaller class sizes that enables our tutors to provide excellent support and guidance. The course also focuses on the vocational aspects of business and management, and on the course you will study real world business scenarios, hear from guest speakers from a range of business settings and work on numerous applied business cases.”
The college’s range of courses in business and management can help you start or progress your career as a: middle or senior manager across all sectors; business development manager; entrepreneur or business owner; management consultant or business analyst.
One ex-Coleg Llandrillo student is now one of the most powerful men in retail, and has returned to his place of learning several times to give a series of masterclasses to current Business students, giving them pointers on how to succeed in the burgeoning retail sector.
Darren Sinclair, who is a managing director for Sainsbury’s Supermarkets Ltd., studied on a range of Business courses at the college’s Rhos-on-Sea campus. He currently oversees Zone Central, covering a store portfolio of 500 Sainsbury's supermarkets and convenience stores including the 185,000 sq ft Online Fulfilment Centre in London and around 45,000 colleagues.
On his most recent visit, Darren said: “It was a delight to speak with the young students. They had a voracious appetite for knowledge which will stand them in good stead for the future.”
