Myfyriwr Lefel A yn Serennu mewn Cystadleuaeth Fathemateg Ryngwladol
Yn ddiweddar, daeth Olaf Niechcial o Dremadog, i frig cystadleuaeth fathemategol a gynhaliwyd gan yr Ymddiriedolaeth Mathemateg y Deyrnas Unedig (UKMT)
Enillodd Olaf farc uchel iawn yn rownd Her Fathemategol Hŷn, sydd yn her 90 munud, aml ddewis.
Mae'r cystadleuaeth yn annog rhesymu mathemategol, a rhuglder wrth ddefnyddio technegau mathemategol sylfaenol i ddatrys problemau diddorol.
Yn sgil camp Olaf, cafodd ei wahodd gan yr ymddiriedolaeth i gystadlu mewn cystadleuaeth ddilynol, sef y 'Andrew Jobbings Senior Kangaroo'. yn rownd ddilynol, sydd yn her 60 munud sy'n cynnwys 20 problem. Enillodd Olaf dystysgrif teilyngdod, sydd yn cael ei ennill gan lai na 25% o ymgeiswyr y gystadleuaeth.
Dywedodd Llio Marian Davies, tiwtor Lefel A yng Ngholeg Meirion-Dwyfor,
“Nid ar chware bach y mae ennill medal aur yn y gystadleuaeth yma. Mae rhai o unigolion mwyaf galluog mewn mathemateg ar draws y byd yn cystadlu. Rydym yn falch iawn o lwyddiant ysgubol Olaf.”
Ychwanegodd Llio Marian Davies.
“Un o fanteision mawr astudio lefel a yma yn y coleg gyda ni, ydi’r ffaith bod gennym arbenigwyr pwnc, ar draw pob un o’n pynciau lefel a, sydd yn fanteisiol iawn i’n myfyrwyr. Rydym yn hynod o falch fel coleg, o lwyddiant Olaf, da iawn ti!”

Olaf gained an exceptionally high mark in the Senior Mathematical Challenge round of the competition, which is a 90-minute, multiple-choice challenge.
The competition encourages mathematical reasoning, and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems.
Following Olaf's success, he was invited by the trust to compete in a subsequent competition, the 'Andrew Jobbings Senior Kangaroo', which is a 60-minute challenge containing 20 problems. Olaf won a certificate of merit, which is won by less than 25% of the competition's candidates.
Llio Marian Davies, Mathematics A-level tutor at Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor, said: "Winning a gold medal in this competition is no small feat: Olaf was competing against some of the most capable individuals in the field of mathematics from all over the world."
Llio Marian Davies added: "One of the great advantages of studying A-levels here at the college is the fact that we have subject experts on each of our A-level courses, which is very advantageous for our students. We are extremely proud as a college of Olaf's success, well done indeed."
