Myfyriwr Lefel A Y Gyfraith yn cael llwyddiant ar gynllun LEDLET

Yn ddiweddar cafodd Lili Boyd Pickavance, sydd yn fyfyriwr Lefel A yng Ngholeg Meirion-Dwyfor, Pwllheli, gyfle i fynychu Ysgol Haf LEDLET (Lord Edmund Davies Legal Education Trust).

Mae Ymddiriedolaeth Addysg Gyfreithiol yr Arglwydd Edmund Davies, neu LEDLET yn fyr, yn elusen annibynnol a sefydlwyd yn 2013 i wasanaethu pobl ifanc sy’n byw yng Nghymru neu sydd â chysylltiad â Chymru sydd â diddordeb mewn ymuno â’r proffesiwn cyfreithiol.

Mae’r elusen yn cael ei rhedeg gan dîm o ymddiriedolwyr o ystod amrywiol o gefndiroedd cyfreithiol, pob un â chysylltiadau â Chymru. Yn benodol, sefydlwyd LEDLET gyda'r nod o sicrhau na fyddai unrhyw un mewn cymdeithas yn dod i'r casgliad y byddai eu cefndir yn eu hatal rhag mynd i'r gyfraith.

Dywedodd Lili Boyd Pickavance.

“Eleni, ym Mis Gorffennaf cefais y fraint o wario wythnos yng Nghaerdydd ar raglen cynllun haf LEDLET. Mae’r rhaglen yn dewis 10 myfyrwyr blwyddyn 12 ar draws Cymru heb gefndir cyfreithiol na theulu yn y maes. “

“Cawsom gyfle i wrando ar gyflwyniadau gan athrawon o Adran Y Gyfraith ym Mhrifysgol Caerdydd. Eistedd i mewn ar achos mewn llys, ymweld â siambr APEX a chwestiynu bar gyfreithwyr.”

“Cefais gyfle i ymweld â Thŷ Hywel, lle mae cyfreithwyr Senedd Cymru’n gweithio, a dysgu am waith y Senedd, a’r pwerau sydd gan y Senedd i wneud cyfreithiau yng Nghymru.”

“Cyn gorffen gyda thaith tywys o gwmpas Llys y Goron yng Nghaerdydd a chael siarad gyda sawl barnwr am eu gwaith.”

“Roedd cael mynychu Ysgol Haf LEDLET yn brofiad unwaith mewn oes. Rwyf wedi dysgu llawer am y system gyfreithiol a’r gwahanol lwybrau i mewn i’r gyfraith. Rwy’n ddiolchgar iawn i LEDLET ac am adael i mi fod yn rhan o wythnos anhygoel.”

Dywedodd Louise Harding, Darlithydd y Gyfraith, Adran Lefel A yng Ngholeg Meirion-Dwyfor.

“Mae hwn yn gyfle gwych i'r myfyrwyr ac yn darparu profiadau byth gofiadwy. Mae gyrfa yn y byd cyfreithiol yn gystadleuol dros ben ac yn cynnwys ystod eang iawn o opsiynau gyrfaol. Mae'r arbenigedd a'r gefnogaeth gan LEDLET yn amhrisiadwy ac rydw i'n hynod ddiolchgar i'r cynllun am roi'r fath gyfleoedd i'r myfyrwyr.”

The Lord Edmund Davies Legal Education Trust (LEDLET) is an independent charity established in 2013 to serve young people living in Wales, or with a connection to Wales, who are interested in joining the legal profession.

The charity is run by a team of trustees from a diverse range of legal backgrounds, all with links to Wales. In particular, LEDLET was established with the aim of ensuring that a person’s background should not be a barrier to them entering the field of law.

18-year-old Lili from Pwllheli said: "This summer I had the privilege of spending a week in Cardiff on the LEDLET summer scheme programme. The programme selects ten year 12 students from across Wales without any background within the field of law.

"We had the opportunity to listen to presentations by professors from the Law department at Cardiff University, sit in on a court case, and visit the APEX chambers. I also had the opportunity to visit Ty Hywel, where the lawyers of Senedd Cymru work, and learn about the work of the Senedd, and the powers that it has to make laws in Wales. The week culminated with a guided tour around the Crown Court in Cardiff and getting to talk to several judges about their work.

"Being able to attend the summer school was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I have learned a lot about the legal system and the different routes into the law. I am very grateful to the charity for allowing me to be part of an amazing week.”

Louise Harding, Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor A-level Law lecturer, added: “This is a great opportunity for the students, providing them with unforgettable experiences. A career within the legal world is extremely rewarding. The expertise and support provided from LEDLET is invaluable and I am extremely grateful to the scheme for giving the students such opportunities."
