Cydlynydd Sgiliau'r Coleg yn cyrraedd y nod!
Mae cydlynydd sgiliau Coleg sydd hefyd yn saethydd brwd, wnaeth wireddu breuddwyd oes o fod yn bencampwraig genedlaethol saethyddiaeth, wedi gafael yn ei bwa saeth unwaith eto i helpu Cymru ennill medal arian ym mhencampwriaeth timau'r Deyrnas Unedig yn ddiweddar.
Roedd Rhona Halliday-Noden, y cydlynydd sgiliau hanfodol galwedigaethol ar gampws Coleg Llandrillo yn y Rhyl, yn rhan o dîm Cymru wnaeth hawlio'r ail safle ym Mhencampwriaeth Saethyddiaeth Ewrop y Gymanwlad - a elwid yn 'Euronations' yn flaenorol - a gynhaliwyd gan Gymdeithas Saethyddiaeth yr Alban yn Kilmarnock.
Yn dilyn cyfri'r sgorau yng nghategorïau’r dynion a'r merched dyfarnwyd y fedal arian i Gymru, a gynrychiolwyd gan ei thîm mwyaf erioed. Ymhlith y categorïau roedd rhai'r bwa saeth sylfaenol ('barebow'), cyfunol i ddynion, cyfunol i ferched, bwa saeth atro a bwa saeth atro i ferched.
Mae'r bencampwriaeth yn profi sgiliau'r saethyddion gorau o Gymru, Lloegr, Yr Alban a Gogledd Iwerddon.
Dywedodd Rhona, o Lan Conwy: “Ro'n i wrth fy modd yn cael fy newis fel aelod o dîm Cymru eto. Roedd y tywydd yn berffaith, dim gwynt na heulwen. Cefais fy newis ar gyfer y bencampwriaeth o fri hon ar ôl cyflawni'r tair sgôr uchaf yn 2022 i fod ar y brig i ennill fy lle."
Ganwyd Rhona yn yr Alban cyn symud i Fryste ac yna i Gilgwri ac yna i Ogledd Cymru 14 mlynedd yn ôl.
Cymhwysodd yn fwäwr ('bowman') - y ddynes gyntaf o'i chlwb i wneud hynny.
Roedd Rhona yn 16 oed pan gychwynnodd ar y gamp saethyddiaeth. Dysgodd y grefft yn sydyn iawn a chafodd ei dewis i gynrychioli ei sir ond rhoddodd y gorau iddi yn 20 oed. Ail-gydiodd yn y gamp ychydig dros bedair blynedd yn ôl. Wrth drafod pam y gwnaeth ailafael ynddi, dywedodd: "Pasiodd fy mab ei brawf gyrru. Doedd dim rhaid i mi ei ddanfon o gwmpas y lle, felly roedd gen i amser i ddychwelyd at fy nghariad cyntaf.
Rhai misoedd ar ôl dychwelyd at y gamp cyhoeddodd Cymdeithas Saethyddiaeth Cymru bod Rhona wedi cael ei dewis i dîm oedolion Cymru i gymryd rhan yng nghystadleuaeth Euronations yn Swydd Nottingham. Yn ystod y flwyddyn honno, gosododd wyth record Cymdeithas Saethyddiaeth Gogledd Cymru a deg record Cymdeithas Saethyddiaeth Cymru, yn ogystal ag ennill medal efydd ym Mhencampwriaethau Cenedlaethol Cymru.
Yn 2020 enillodd Rhona deitl Pencampwraig Cenedlaethol Cymru yng nghystadleuaeth dan do cenedlaethol Cymru yng nghanolfan Chwaraeon Cymru, Gerddi Soffia, Caerdydd.

Rhona Halliday-Noden, who is the vocational essential skills coordinator at Coleg Llandrillo’s Rhyl campus, was part of the Wales team which claimed overall second place at the Commonwealth Archery Championship Europe - formally known as Euronations - hosted by the Scottish Archery Association in Kilmarnock, Scotland.
After totting up the scores across the men’s and women’s categories, Wales – which was represented by its largest team ever - was awarded the silver medal. Categories included Barebow, Compound Men, Compound Women, Recurve and Recurve Women.
The bi-annual tournament tests the skills of the best male and female archers from across Wales, England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Rhona, from Glan Conwy, said: “I was delighted to be picked for Wales again. Weather conditions were perfect for shooting, with no wind nor sunshine. I was selected for this prestigious tournament after submitting the three top scores from 2022, qualifying in top spot.”
Born in Scotland, Rhona later moved to Bristol and then the Wirral, before relocating to North Wales 14 years ago. She has qualified as a ‘bowman’ – the first ever woman from her club to achieve this status.
Rhona was 16-years-old when she started archery. She soon became proficient and was chosen to play for her county, but she gave it all up at the age of 20. She returned to archery just over four years ago. Talking about her return to the bow, she said: “My son passed his driving test. I didn’t have to chauffeur him around anymore, so I had the time to return to my first love.”
A matter of months after her return to the sport, the Welsh Archery Association announced that Rhona had been selected for the senior team to represent Wales at the Senior Euronations competition in Nottinghamshire. During that year she achieved eight North Wales Archery Society records and ten Welsh Archery Society records, as well as a bronze medal at the Welsh National Championships.
In 2020, Rhona was crowned the ‘Welsh National Senior’ (Compound) champion at the Welsh National Senior Indoor Championships at the Sport for Wales Centre, Sophia Gardens in Cardiff.
