Prentisiaid ym maes Tyrbinau Gwynt y Coleg yn gweithio ar y môr am y Tro Cyntaf

Gweithiodd carfan ddiweddaraf Cymru o dechnegwyr prentis ym maes Tyrbinau Gwynt yng Nghymru ar y môr am y tro cyntaf yr haf hwn. Roedd hynny yn dilyn cwblhau yn llwyddiannus flwyddyn gyntaf yr hyfforddiant yn y coleg yn unig Ganolfan Hyfforddi Tyrbinau Gwynt Cymru, wedi ei lleoli ar gampws Llandrillo-yn-Rhos Coleg Llandrillo.

Cwblhaodd y myfyrwyr o Grŵp Llandrillo Menai ran academaidd eu cwrs tair blynedd yn y Ganolfan Hyfforddi Arbenigol ym maes Tyrbinau Gwynt cyn cael profiad o dyrbinau gwynt ar y môr - ffynhonnell adnewyddadwy fwyaf Cymru - gan weithio gyda'u darpar gyflogwyr mewn dau leoliad gwahanol.

Yn ystod y flwyddyn academaidd ddiwethaf, mae'r ganolfan hyfforddi wedi croesawu wyth prentis RWE Renewables: pedwar wedi eu lleoli yn Triton Knoll yn Swydd Lincoln a phedwar o Fae Lerpwl. Wedi blwyddyn yn unig, maent wedi ennill Diploma Atodol Lefel 3 BTEC mewn Peirianneg a C&G NVQ Lefel 2 mewn Perfformio Gweithrediadau Peirianneg.

Wrth fynd i mewn i'w hail flwyddyn, byddant nawr yn gwneud Diploma C&G mewn Cynnal a Chadw Tyrbinau Gwynt (Gwybodaeth Dechnegol) ac unedau ychwanegol i'r NVQ Lefel 2.

Yn dilyn datblygiad rhaglen brentisiaeth hynod lwyddiannus yn y coleg, mae RWE Renewables wedi cyhoeddi, o'r mis hwn (Medi), y bydd 11 mwy o'i brentisiaid o bob cwr o'r Deyrnas Unedig yn dechrau eu hyfforddiant yn y coleg.

Dywedodd hyfforddwr ac aseswr Tyrbinau Gwynt Coleg Llandrillo Marc McDonough: "Rydym yn falch iawn i barhau i weithio mewn partneriaeth gyda RWE Renewables i hyfforddi pobl ifanc yn y diwydiant pŵer adnewyddadwy sydd ar ei dwf. Mae gennym raglen brentisiaeth lwyddiannus wedi ei phrofi ar gyfer pwer hydro, ar y môr, ac ar y tir ac yn edrych ymlaen at lawer mwy o flynyddoedd o weithio gyda RWE Renewables."

Dechreuodd y grŵp cyntaf o dechnegwyr dan hyfforddiant ym maes tyrbinau gwynt, a ddewiswyd o dros 660 ymgeisydd yn dilyn proses ddethol lem a barodd sawl mis, eu hyfforddiant ar gampws Llandrillo-yn-Rhos fis Medi 2012.

The Grŵp Llandrillo Menai students completed the academic part of their three-year Wind Turbine Apprenticeship Programme before cutting their teeth on offshore wind turbines - Wales’ biggest renewable energy source - working with their prospective employers at two different sites.

During the past academic year, the training centre hosted eight RWE Renewables’ apprentices: four based at Triton Knoll in Lincolnshire and four from Liverpool Bay. After only one year, they have attained a BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Engineering and a C&G NVQ Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations.

Entering their second year, they will now undertake a C&G Diploma in Wind Turbine Maintenance (Technical Knowledge) and additional units to the NVQ Level 2.

Due to the success of the college’s award-winning apprenticeship programme, RWE Renewables has announced that from this month (September), 11 more of its apprentices from across the UK will start their training at the college.

Coleg Llandrillo’s Wind Turbine trainer & assessor Mark McDonough said: “We are very pleased to continue working in partnership with RWE Renewables to train young persons for the ever-growing renewable power industry. We have a proven successful apprenticeship programme for hydro, offshore, and onshore wind power and look forward to many more years working with RWE Renewables.”

The first ever cohort of trainee wind turbine technicians - who were selected out of over 660 applicants after a rigorous selection process taking many months - started their training at Coleg Llandrillo’s Rhos-on-Sea campus in September 2012.
